Scheepers falls in rankings

Johannesburg - Chanelle Scheepers has dropped out the top 50 in the women's world tennis rankings for the first time in a year.

Scheepers, the South African women's number one, was eliminated in the quarterfinals last week in the defence of her title at the Guangzhou International Women's Open in China.

At last year's tournament, Scheepers lifted her maiden title and became the first South African woman in eight years to win a WTA event.

She dropped 10 places to 53rd in the latest world rankings released on Monday.

South Africa's top-ranked men's player Kevin Anderson remained in 35th place in the men's ranking list.
