Dusseldorf - Andy Roddick was beaten in straight sets by Argentina's Carlos Berlocq on Sunday in his opening World Team Cup match on his return from injury.

The 29-year-old American, ranked 27th in the world, was playing his first match in two months following a hip injury and he looked rusty, going down 6-2, 6-2 in 90 minutes in the Red Group tie.

The former world number one last competed at Miami's hardcourt tournament in late March, where he upset Roger Federer in the third round, only to go down 7-5, 6-0 to Argentina's Juan Monaco in the next round.

Roddick has failed to get beyond the quarter-finals of any of the six tournaments he has played this year.
