New York - David Nalbandian was ruled out of the US Open on Tuesday after having failed to recover from a rib injury, the ATP confirmed.
Nalbandian, the former world No 3 and Wimbledon runner-up in 2002, had been due to face Argentine compatriot and 2009 champion in New York Juan Martin del Potro in the first round.
His place in the draw will be taken by French lucky loser Florent Serra.
