Later Wimbledon start in 2015

London - Wimbledon organisers say the Grand Slam tournament will be pushed back one week from 2015 in order to prolong the grass-court season.

The All England Club said in a statement on Thursday that the change will "benefit the sport as a whole by creating a three-week gap between the French Open and Wimbledon," giving players more time to play on grass and recover from Roland Garros.

All England Club chairman Philip Brook says "all our research indicates that there is widespread support within the game for extending the gap between the French Open and Wimbledon and, importantly, we think most players will welcome the prospect of a longer grass court season and spending more time on the softer surface of grass."

In 2015, the tournament will run from June 29 to July 12.
