Izak reaches SA Open semis

Johannesburg - South African wildcard Izak van der Merwe beat Simon Greul of Germany 7-6 (5), 6-2 on Friday at the SA Tennis Open for a place in his first ATP semi-final.

The 170th-ranked Van der Merwe broke his opponent twice in the second set to win at Montecasino.

South Africa has a chance of getting three players into the last four with Rik de Voest and fourth-seeded Kevin Anderson also playing in the quarter-finals on Friday.

De Voest, another wild card, faces Somdev Devvarman of India. Anderson is up against Karol Beck of Slovakia.
