Paris - David Goffin became just the second Belgian man to reach the French Open quarter-finals on Wednesday when he defeated Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.
Goffin, the 12th seed, will face Austrian 13th seed Dominic Thiem for a place in the semi-finals.
Filip Dewulf was the first Belgian man into the last eight in Paris in 1997.
Czech seventh seed Tomas Berdych also set-up a quarter-final clash against world number one Novak Djokovic on Wednesday when he defeated Spain's David Ferrer 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.
Berdych will be playing in his third Roland Garros quarter-final but faces an uphill task having won just two of his 25 meetings with Djokovic.
