Anderson climbs to career high

Cape Town - South Africa's tennis player Kevin Anderson has climbed two places to 18th in the latest ATP World Tour singles rankings, released on Monday.

He equalled his highest position in the world ranking which, he first achieved in March, before slipping to 19th and 20th over the last few months.

Anderson cruised to a fourth appearance in a grand slam fourth round at last week's French Open.

There he fell 6-3, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1 against Spain's David Ferrer.

He secured his passage to the fourth round after Ivo Karlovic of Croatia retired with a back injury, losing the first set 6-3, in their third round encounter.

In the second round, Anderson brushed aside Axel Michon, the world number 206 from France, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, after winning his opening match 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 against Frenchman Stephane Robert.

In the world doubles rankings South Africa's Raven Klaasen, shot three places up to 27th.

Klaasen and his American doubles partner Eric Butorac, bowed out in the second round of the French Open.

They had started their campaign with a 7-6, 6-1 first round win over the tough American pairing of Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson. They then lost 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco in the second round.

In the women's singles rankings, Chani Scheepers slipped to 97th on the standings and climbed four places to 50 in her doubles rankings.
