Dent retires from ATP tour

Florida - Taylor Dent, the son of Australian tennis legend Phil Dent, announced on Monday that he is retiring from professional tennis to pursue other opportunities.

The 29-year-old American finished with an ATP record of 151-140 and more than $2.5 million in prize money.

Dent won four career titles, three of them in 2003. He went 12-19 in 2010 and was ranked 85th after reaching a career high of 21st in 2005.

Dent, a serve and volleyer, underwent back surgery three times in 2006 and 2007 but battled back last year to return to the top 100.

In 2002, Dent won his first ATP title at Newport to make him and his father, the 1974 Australian Open runner-up and a French Open semi-finalist, the first father-son duo in the Open Era to have won top-level tour events.

In 2003, Dent won at Bangkok, Moscow and Memphis, taking the US event's title without dropping a set.
