Barcelona - Fourth seed Tomas Berdych withdrew on Sunday from the Barcelona Open, with the Czech complaining of intestinal illness.
Berdych, a semi-finalist at the weekend in Monte Carlo, last played the event in 2009, reaching the third round at the event which begins on Monday.
Rafael Nadal, fresh from his eighth Monte Carlo Masters title, heads the field, with Andy Murray as second seed and Spain's David Ferrer, third.
The top eight seeds receive first-round byes.
