Stosur crushes Davis

Melbourne - Australian fifth seed Samantha Stosur defeated American Lauren Davis 6-1, 6-1 to move into the second round of the Australian Open on Tuesday.

Stosur, hoping to become the first Australian to win the women's title since Chris O'Neil in 1978, showed no mercy to the American wildcard as she cruised through their first round match in 53 minutes.

The Australian was ruthless as she took advantage of some early nerves from the 17-year-old Davis, rushing to a 5-0 lead before her opponent managed to get on the scoreboard.

The first set lasted just 25 minutes and the second 28 as Stosur refused to ease up, giving her fans some hope that she may be able to make her Grand Slam breakthrough after reaching the French Open final in 2010.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
