Soderling mauls Muller

Melbourne - Robin Soderling tore apart Luxembourg journeyman Gilles Muller 6-3 7-6 6-1 to charge into the third round of the Australian Open on Thursday.

The fourth-seeded Swede prowled tiger-like along the baseline in a black and yellow shirt, mixing booming serves with rocketed forehand winners to seal the match in 105 minutes.

Despite cracking the quarter-finals of the other three grand slams, Soderling had never passed the second round in his five previous appearances at Melbourne Park.

Soderling will face Czech Jan Hernych in the next round.
