Melbourne - American 16th seed John Isner outlasted Argentina's David Nalbandian in a five-set marathon to reach the third round at the Australian Open on Wednesday.

Isner downed Nalbandian 4-6, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7/5), 10-8 in 4hr 41mins with the final set lasting 99 minutes.
