Melbourne - Spanish fifth seed David Ferrer beat Frenchman Richard Gasquet in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals at the Australian Open on Monday.

Ferrer, last year's semi-finalist, defeated 17th seed Gasquet 6-4, 6-4, 6-1 and will play either top seed Novak Djokovic or Australian wild card Lleyton Hewitt in Wednesday's quarters.
