Johannesburg - Chanelle Scheepers crashed out in the first round of the year's first Gran Slam tennis tournament, the Australian Open, in Melbourne on Monday.
Scheepers went down 1-6, 2-6 against Czech world number 22 Klara Zakopalova in the opening round of the women's singles competition.
Kevin Anderson, the only other South African in the main singles draw, was set to face Italian Paulo Lorenzi in the first round of the men's competition later on Monday.

The competition is getting interesting, not so much because of the quality of the matches but more because of the teams making their moves to contest for the top spots, writes blogger Baylion.
