Bouchard eases into 2nd round

Melbourne - Seventh seed Eugenie Bouchard advanced into the Australian Open second round on Monday with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany.

The 20-year-old Canadian cruised through the first set in 30 minutes but had to grind down her 98th ranked opponent in the second, eventually taking it after 48 minutes.

Bouchard, a semi-finalist at Melbourne Park last year, will play either Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands or Australian wildcard Daria Gavrilova in the second round.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
