Dusseldorf - Struggling American Andy Roddick slumped to his third defeat at the World Team Cup on Thursday when he lost 7-5, 7-6 (7/4) to Japan's Go Soeda, the world No 60.
Former world No 1 Roddick, now at 29 in the world, is making his season's bow on European clay courts ahead of the French Open after being sidelined for two months with a hip injury.
Despite Roddick's loss, the USA still won the match 2-1.
