Unfortunately for Anderson, he lost the final set 6-4 when play resumed on Friday.

In the semi-finals, Johnson will now play seventh seed Italian Andreas Seppi, who rallied to beat Israel’s Dudi Sela 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

In the other semi-final, Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller will take on second seed Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas, who saved a match point in beating Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10/8).

The Nottingham Open is the players' last chance to hone their grass-court game before Wimbledon starts on Monday.
