Shanghai - Nick Kyrgios of Australia and 11th seed David Goffin both reached the second round of the Shanghai Masters on Tuesday.
The 12th-seeded Kyrgios won in straight sets against American Sam Querrey 6-4, 6-4 while Belgian, Goffin played well to defeat Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In the opening set of a match with two big servers, Kyrgios managed to break Querrey's serve in the seventh game comfortably and went on to claim the set 6-4 after converting his second set point.
The next set was similar to the previous one when Kyrgios once again claimed his opponent's serve in the seventh game to lead 4-3, but was made to work hard the next game saving two break points before holding serve.
In the end, Kyrgios was the class act and served out the match to love winning the set 6-4. He will next be up against German qualifier Mischa Zverev who hammered China's Ze Zhang 6-1, 6-2.
In an upset and an all-Spanish clash, Feliciano Lopez needed two hours and 33 minutes to beat 10th seed David Ferrer 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(4) while French 13th seed Lucas Pouille cruised past Fernando Verdasco of Spain 6-3, 6-3.
American Jack Sock saw off the challenge of Guido Pella of Argentina 7-6 (7/3), 7-5 and Paolo Lorenzi of Italy beat Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 5-7, 7-6 (7/2), 6-3.
Spain's Marcel Granollers got past Yuichi Sugita of Japan 7-5, 7-6 (7/2) and Frenchman Gilles Simon hammered Pablo Carreno of Spain 6-0, 6-3.
