Atlanta - Second-seeded Nick Kyrgios of
Australia advanced to the BB&T Atlanta Open quarter-finals on Thursday
night, beating American Jared Donaldson 7-6 (4), 6-3 in a rain-interrupted
match.
Kyrgios won an indoor event in Marseille,
France, in February for his lone tour title. He will face fifth-seeded Fernando
Verdasco of Spain, a 6-1, 6-3 winner over France's Julien Benneteau.
Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka and Argentina's Horacio Zeballos set up a quarter-final in the day session. Nishioka beat fourth-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, and Zeballos topped Germany's Tobias Kamke 6-1, 6-4.
On Wednesday, three-time defending champion
John Isner overpowered France's Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 6-0 to set up an
all-American quarter-final against eighth-seeded Taylor Fritz. The 6-foot-10
Isner, a former University of Georgia star, has reached the finals in Atlanta
five of the previous six years.
In the other quarter-final, seventh-seeded Donald Young will play fellow American Reilly Opelka. The 18-year-old Opelka is 6-foot-11.
