Anderson advances to Nice quarter-finals

Nice - Third-seeded Kevin Anderson won for only the third time this year in reaching the Nice Open quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Anderson, who received a wild card at the clay-court tournament, hit seven aces and broke Diego Schwartzman of Argentina twice to win 7-6 (4), 6-3.

The 20th-ranked South African has been struggling with various injuries, and underwent ankle surgery in March. He will take on fifth-seeded Joao Sousa or Victor Estrella Burgos in the next round.

Also, No. 7 seed Andreas Seppi needed more than 2 1/2 hours to rally past Daniel Munoz de la Nava 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-4 after saving a match point at 4-5 in the second set. He will be up against Paul-Henri Mathieu in the second round.
