Agassi: Federer could play for 'four or five years'

Federer, 35, has had an astonishing start to the 2017 tennis season by winning the three biggest tournaments so far - Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami Masters - this after not playing for six months in 2016 to recover from a knee injury. 

During his injury layoff questions were doing the rounds about whether he could return to his brilliant best as he had last won a Grand Slam title in 2012. 

But typically, Federer answered his critics by winning his 18th grand slam title when he beat Spain's Rafa Nadal in the final of the Australian Open and is on a 19-1 win-loss run at the moment.

Federer has shown he has no plans on retiring having signed a deal to play in the Basel tournament until 2019, which will see him play at the age of 38.

In an interview carried by Tennis World USA website, Agassi feels that the world No 4 could carry on playing for a number of years if he remains injury free.

"No, coming back I would have probably called it a career before," said Agassi. 

"In my case, my body had told me to stop and I didn't have another choice. Also, I never had Roger's game," said Agassi.

"For me it was easy, but it seems that he can keep going for another four or five years. The only thing I can say is that when the end comes, it comes in a fast way and you do not expect it. Something happens and everything changes," he added.

Federer will next be in action at the French Open after deciding to take a 10-week break after deciding to skip playing in the clay court tournaments in Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid and Rome.

The Swiss star told the same tennis publication, that he planned on playing fewer tournaments to rather focus on winning Wimbledon and the US Open in 2017.

"In Dubai, I realised that I needed a break. After Indian Wells and Miami, I understood that playing in the clay season would have been too much," Federer said.
