Johannesburg - South Africa's crucial Davis Cup tie away to Poland will be broadcast live on pay-channel SuperSport, Tennis South Africa (TSA) confirmed on Tuesday.
TSA CEO, Ian Smith, said his association welcomed the decision by SuperSport to air the April 5-6 tie live.
"Tennis South Africa are most grateful to SuperSport for taking the live feed from Poland like they did in our World Group playoff tie against Canada last year. Our players are thrilled that they will be playing in the homes of their nation. They thrive on this support and have sent us a message that they will do all they can to win against a strong Polish team on behalf of TSA and the tennis fraternity.”
Having battled in Group III in 2007, the South Africans have made great strides in reaching the World Group playoffs for the last four years. However, they have been unable to break through to the elite 16.
Poland are looking to defeat South Africa for the first time in Davis Cup, having fallen on both previous occasions in 1935 and 2003. Their last meeting was decided in the doubles when David Adams and Robbie Koenig beat doubles specialists and Grand Slam doubles finalists Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.
Poland are on a winning streak having won their last four ties - all on home soil.
Broadcast details:
Friday, April 5: SS6, 16:00.
Saturday, April 6: SS6, 14:00.
Sunday, April 7: SS2, 12:00 (switching to SS7 if it runs past 14:30).
