Nadal advances on walkover

Indian Wells - Former world No 1 Rafael Nadal advanced to the fourth round of the Indian Wells Masters on a walkover on Monday as Argentina's Leonardo Mayer withdrew from their match with a back injury.

The announcement came minutes before the two were to begin warming up on the stadium court.

The walkover could be a boost for Spain's Nadal, who is playing his fourth tournament since returning last month from a seven-month absence recovering from a left knee injury.
