Gulbis into St Petersburg final

Saint Petersburg - Latvia's Ernests Gulbis stormed into the Saint Petersburg ATP Tour final with a 6-3, 6-3 win over unheralded Pole Michal Przysiezny on Saturday.

It was the 25-year-old sixth seed's second victory in three encounters with Przysiezny.

The first set went with serve until the eighth game when Gulbis, ranked 36th in the world, made the vital break-through.

Gulbis broke early to take control of the second set and although Przysiezny, playing in his first ATP semi-final, fought tooth and nail, Gulbis broke again in the ninth game to advance into his fourth career final.

"It wasn't easy to play so early but luckily I managed to wake up in time and win," Gulbis said.

"The other semi-finalists are both strong players. That means the final will be a tough clash."

Portuguese Joao Sousa and Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez will decide the event's second finalist in their semi-final clash later on Saturday.
