Anderson returns to top 30

Johannesburg - Kevin Anderson has rocketed back up the men's world rankings after reaching the quarter-finals of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, in California, last week.

Anderson moved eight placings up the latest ATP ratings list, released on Monday, to settle in 29th position.

The SA men's No 1, returning from an elbow injury, had slipped down the rankings after failing to defend his Delray Beach title earlier this month.

Anderson, however, defeated world No 4 David Ferrer in the second round, and former world No 6 six Gilles Simon in the fourth round, for an impressive performance at Indian Wells.

He was eventually eliminated by sixth seed Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals.

Chanelle Scheepers, the SA women's No 1, who has not competed this month, dropped one place to 61st in the latest WTA rankings.
