2014 season over for Haas

Berlin - Germany's Tommy Haas has brought the curtain down on his season because of a shoulder injury.

The 36-year-old, ranked 20th in the world and his country's number one, told Bild newspaper on Monday he would undergo an operation on his right shoulder in New York on Tuesday.

Haas said the injury had come as a shock.

"At first, I didn't want to take it seriously. Now I can't do it any differently," Haas said, expressing hope he might return to action in 2015.

"I still don't know if that will be possible.

"We'll only be able to decide in a few months' time if it's still possible to return but before that there (are) a few months of dirty work to accomplish, especially as it's a big weight on the mind.

"I'm still intent on coming back, I know what now awaits me and I'll face up to this new challenge."

Haas had to withdraw from Roland Garros in the first round, then going on to pull out of the ATP event in Halle.
