Xulu off for Russian trials

Siyanda Xulu (Gallo)
Johannesburg - Mamelodi Sundowns centre-back Siyanda Xulu has traveled to Russia to undergo trials with FC Rostov.

The defender jetted off to Europe on Monday night as he aims once more to break through on the big stage following failed trials at Barcelona and Arsenal.

The 20-year-old has also reportedly caught the eye of Atletico Madrid, but he will look to follow in the footsteps of Matthew Booth, who also enjoyed a spell in Russia before returning to the Brazilians two seasons ago.

A big boost for Xulu is the fact Nigerian ace Isaac Okworonko is already on the books of the Russian Premier League club, giving the Bafana Bafana defender an African connection upon his arrival in the country.
