Cape Town - English soccer legend Alan Shearer has slated the scheduled 2018 World Cup playoff fixture to be played on Saturday between beaten semi-finalists, England and Belgium.

Belgium, who lost 1-0 to France and England, who went down 2-1 to Croatia in their respective semi-final encounters this week, now have to meet to decided the third best team at the tournament in what many feel is a meaningless fixture.
Shearer took to Twitter to voice his displeasure, calling the match 'utter stupidity'.
Like many others, Shearer believes that the players themselves have little interest in the fixture.
"Third and fourth place play off game is utter stupidity. Last thing any player wants. #gethome," said the 47-year old former striker who played in the English Premiership for Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle.
Shearer was capped 63 times for England between 1993 and 2003, scoring 30 goals.
