Johannesburg - As the FIFA Soccer World Cup approaches, the anticipation for this global spectacle mounts in South Africa.
Enter official mascot Zakumi, the 'Za' meaning South Africa, and the 'kumi' roughly translating into '10' in various African languages.
Besides being the mascot for the World Cup, he is available for fans in the form of a lucky packet. A Sapa reporter bought one at the convenience store of a local filling station.
Retailing at R89.95 the cashier seemed surprised be to selling Zakumi's modest little bag of goodies.
The contents include: a small soccer stress ball, key chain, button badge, temporary tattoo stickers and a silicone wrist band.
Remarked the cashier; "Nobody is buying these lucky packets because customers say it is too expensive."
In fact, it was the first lucky packet that the cashier could remember selling.
