Johannesburg - The process of making the 2010 FIFA World Cup accessible to ordinary South Africans will finally get under way on Friday with the unveiling of over-the-counter sales, according to a Sowetan report.

This will be the first time the process will be used by FIFA.

The launch of over-the-counter sales will take place at Maponya Mall in Soweto on Friday and will also be attended by FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke.

This is where one of the ticketing centres catering for residents of Soweto, Johannesburg and surrounding areas will be based.

Danny Jordaan, the CEO of the local organising committee, is also expected to attend the launch.

Valcke and Jordaan will provide comprehensive updates on the coming fifth and final ticket sales phase that kicks off on April 15.

Hi Bobby please advise if you still have tickets thanks desiree.laldeo@micor.co.za

' there have been threats of attacks .......... murdering of farmers are a real concern '. I live in Cape Town and I haven't seen people growing mielies in Cape Town Stadium, so piss off with your attitude. No doubt you're just an expat longing for this country to fail so that you can feel justified for fleeing. Your opinions are a fu***** waste of time and Sports24 opinion space, and good luck to you and your family - SA won't miss them or you !!!!!
Doreen4/10/2010 11:35 PM
There has been threats of attacks during the SWC in South Africa and with recent events that took place I will definitely not encourage ANYONE to go. Also the continue murdering of farmers are a real concern and the international media is now giving it attention. To all of you who say "it is safe" and "the death of one person" won't change the security or in any way affect the SWC, is fooling themselves and the rest of the world! Wake up and smell reality. I have family in South Africa and I can assure you that it is NOT SAFE!! They are planning to leave South Africa A.S.A.P. There is something brewing and it's not going to be nice. BOYCOTT THE SWC IN SOUTH AFRICA!
Dan4/10/2010 8:30 PM
Shut up whingers. Let those of us who actually support the country of our birth enjoy this fantastic event, take your Malema rants, negativity, and thinly veiled racism elsewhere please. Thanks. I'm just hacked off with the airlines who make it too expensive for me to fly from Cape Town to Bafana Bafana play. There'd better be fanzones.

hi, i am looking for SWC tickets, if you have any, please contact me
Intune4/8/2010 12:06 AM
This is brilliant. Take advantage of it. I have got tickets and I am going to try to get more.
wf football fan4/7/2010 8:59 PM
We do not have credit cards, applying through FNB useless. We are desperate for tickets to any game in Pta, Rustenburg or JHB. Any chance otc tickets will be availale to the general public, say maybe in Mamelodi?
Jason4/7/2010 5:35 PM
Whenever I read comments on these SWC articles, I despair at the attitude and intelligence of our population. It's amazing how many people have gone out of their way to actively sabotage this event.
Wake up4/7/2010 5:02 PM
Some of the people writing these comments need to wake up. @CHARMAINE LOTTERING and everybody complaining about not having a place to buy tickets close to them: Take a second to read the FIFA website or listen to the endless advertisements. You've been able to apply for tickets through FNB branches since day one. Do you need help finding one of those? This is the biggest sporting event in the world. FIFA's application system is as fair as possible. Because South African's are too lazy to fill out a form and wait a few weeks to find out if they were successful, it results in FIFA having to make a plan to sell them over the counter. It has nothing to do with ticket prices, they're still the same and there are no plans to change the price. Not everyone can afford them and that's called economics/business/life. @Jacques and those complaining about giving away tickets for free. They said they aren't gonna do that but so what if they do. you're not a poor black kid from a township school who can't afford them. You get to choose who you want to watch. If there are 1000 tickets for Honduras against whoever left how is giving them to school kids making your tickets worthless. @David and those who applied and didn't get tickets and now the WC sucks. Grow up. There were plenty of ticket available this round alone not to mention the 1st & 2nd rounds where you could get group matches easily. Just cos you didn't get the popular ones for the teams you wanted doesn't mean you can't get tickets. Do you think you're the only one who wants big game tickets. @ Bob: Go to hell I am gonna enjoy every minute of the 7 matches I'm going to watch. Can't wait to visit Soweto and Soccer City. Now can someone please give this white boy tips on making his makarapa?
Max Muze4/7/2010 4:22 PM
I stumbled upon a web site, http://www.VayaNathi.co.za that lists bus routes for the 2010 World cup host cities. It even shows stadiums, shopping centers and hospitals along routes. I believe it will be used full for fans visiting the host cities.
Theresa4/7/2010 4:09 PM
I am so sick of those of you that have nothing better to do than moan about the SWC. If you bothered in the beginning to get an application form @ FNB then you would see they mention where ALL the ticketing centres are & it then makes sense to assume that the OTC tickets to be sold there. My husband & I didnt get our first picks in Cape Town (to see England & Netherlands respectively) so we applied in PE & got the home tickets @ R140.00 each. STOP BRINGING SKIN COLOUR INTO EVERYTHING & STOP MOANING ABOUT FIFA -they own the rights to the world cups and we are just HOSTING the tournament.
CHARMAINE LOTTERING4/7/2010 3:28 PM
PLSE GIVE ME OTHER PLCES TO GET TICKETS
Steve4/7/2010 3:18 PM
Howcome now? Common foreigners, cancel your trips. I hope the latest poltical/criminal events of the last weekend convince you guys to boycott this event

@ White guy4/7/2010 1:32 PM
Brilliant! Thank you for the uplifting story. That is what this country is about! People living and sharing in each others culture and friendship, that is how the SWC will be remembered, its gonna be awesome!
kw4/7/2010 1:28 PM
agree... not fair that people in soweto get first go at over the counter sales. people that applied unsuccessfully on the internet should get first choice. Anyway, I have all the tickets I wanted so i'm not complaining
Tito4/7/2010 1:26 PM
Damn I have tickets I dont want...yeerrr!!!
Thembalabantubonke4/7/2010 1:20 PM
"This is where one of the ticketing centres catering for residents of Soweto, Johannesburg and surrounding areas will be based" One presumes that the readers who responded with such predictable venom to the article did not bother to read the article properly, because if they did they must surely be embarrassed by now. Miserable sods.
Bobby4/7/2010 1:04 PM
I have bought tickets for all the games in Durban. I bought some for family and friends and paid for them too but half of them won't be coming. FIFA refuses to refund me the remainder.I bought them at the very first launch and hence the reason I got them all. I am an Indian guy and I am very excited, we should all be.Saskia, I have 3 tickets for Brazil-Portugal match if you are keen on Cat 4 tickets( I paid R140ea) My email is *****@webmail.co.za
dylan4/7/2010 1:00 PM

Trevor4/7/2010 12:48 PM
I have applied twice for tickets, when they showed they were available only to then see I was unsuccesfull. I am sure I was robbed. They are going to end up giving those tickets I was rejected away, and they will get no money. Let me tell you, soccer in South Africa sucks. We should stick to what we know. Violance.
Eric4/7/2010 12:41 PM
I think this is quite late for the LOC and FIFA I think the internet system is not working properly because I have applied for 6 games and got only 1 but I had the money to pay for my ticket. Now they have realised that not too many foreigners are coming and now they have to change the tactics to recoup the income.Gents let us go and buy those tickets to put AFRICA on the map
Len van Heerden4/7/2010 12:41 PM
@Cheated/bzet and co Launch means the formalities and the celebrations surrounding such an event and it does not mean that the Maponya Mall will be the only place where tickets will be sold over the counter. Consider the logistics of having one mall in the country selling over the counter. Surely, it would be impractical for that to be done in one location. Come on, bru, this is so obvious. Do we have to bitch and moan about this too? @Jan van Deventer I presume this had nothing to do with the world economy which has seen many countries in a recession? Must be the fault of the blacks?
White Guy4/7/2010 12:39 PM
As a white guy, I visited Maponya Mall in Soweto with my wife and two young children. Nowhere have I felt safer. We were treated with more courtesy than at Clearwater, Fourways or Sandton by both staff and customers alike. My teenage son and I attended a football game featuring Sundowners. We were supporting the opposition. On seeing our 'enemy' jerseys, the Sundowners supporters took us in, included us in their ranks, taught us their dances, gave us their drum and showed us the rhythms to beat. There was not one single aggressive, racist or threatening word uttered. By the end, my son (drumming the drum) was leading a string of dancers as they snaked around the stadium. Our on the ground 'white' experience has been that of pure friendship, companionship and the enjoyment of the game of soccer.
Mamphoza4/7/2010 12:37 PM
What a shame. This country is just full of racist idiots. I will not even try exlpain why i says so because i will just be taking myself down to ur evil level. If u guyz don't like this country pls do us all a favour & F.. off to another country. U guyz r disgusting. sies!!! pooe!!!
Nick@EAZY4/7/2010 12:29 PM
Firstly its Football not Soccer. Soccer is played by useless teams like Bafana Bafana/USA etc..... kick and run style. R20.00 to watch Chiefs v Pirates is about all anybody is prepared to pay to watch Soccer. R200.00 to R1500.00 is what people are prepared to watch Football. So take your Vuvuzela and spay the crowds with TB, see if i care.
Marra4/7/2010 12:23 PM
The FIFA organisers are morons!! Why are tickets not readily available at Computicket? It sells millions of tickets succesfully everyday for a variety of events. The ticket lottery is crazy if you consider that almost everybody wants to go to the soccer, if it was easy to purchase and affordable. Unfortunately I am not prepared to gamble with a lottery system and inflated prices. How are 'normal' people without internet, credit cards etc suppose to purchase OTC tickets at 1 location in Soweto when they don't live in Soweto or are too afraid they will be killed (as I am a boer)?
@Warren from Cheated4/7/2010 12:18 PM
You and all the morons from Maponya Mall can sit together and I hope they blow those vuvuzela's up your a!rse. U may be one of the lucky ones who got all 24 tickets - and I bet they are all R140 each so stop showing off.
Tommo4/7/2010 12:14 PM
WE TOLD YOU SO!!! Free tickets for everyone in the end, just to put people in the stadiums.
Karen F4/7/2010 12:08 PM
Ticket sales only open on 15th April - the 9th April is just a 'pilot' run in Soweto! I am looking forward to the SWC - I am an 'elderly white' and think it will be great!!! Got tickets for Bafana Bafana vs Uruguay in Pretoria. Will try for more tickets on the 15th as well.
Eazy4/7/2010 12:06 PM
Disgruntled, disgruntled, and more disgruntled. Shame on you. Most of you negative peeps have probably never watched a football match in SA unless it involves clubs from Europe. Besides, you all think that blacks are incapable of a successful event. Another thing... your attitude towards Soweto and blacks ingeneral will lead to you getting no tickets. I say sell all the tickets in the black townships as these are the true supporters of football. I've got my tickets and I will be queuing for more at Maponya. Stop comparing soccer to rugby and cricket as these sports are not as large globally as soccer is. If you're not supporting the event then you should rather keep your mouthes shut.
Sthe4/7/2010 12:06 PM
This just goes to show that people don't read news. The Maponya mall SWC ticket center will be used for the launch not that it will only be the place to sell tickets, Sun Coast Casino in Durban.
Guluva4/7/2010 12:04 PM
Gyz lets read the article slowly to understand it. The over-the-counter sales will start only on 15 April (and not this Friday at Maponya mall). This is just a lauch where they will be unveiling the process and provide all the details including the centres where you can buy tickets. For example , in CTN, the ticket center will be in the CBD next to the Arabera Sheraton Hotel. So its not just Maponya mall. Can we be positive for a change about this WC. Its only 64 days left to the event
@Saskia4/7/2010 12:02 PM
...if you are referring to over the counter purchases - the venue is at Gateway (there's a ticketing centre due to open 15 April, not far from Game stores).
Mamelodi4/7/2010 12:01 PM
Were can I get these ticet ubaba? Were is these going to be ticet for us? We demand FREE uticets for us! Viva FREE ticet VIVA

looks like bee co match has stuffed it up.45000 air tickets handed back plus thousands of kruger nights returned no windfalls i keep applying for tickets but dont get. where can i buy over the counter will sandton also sell?
Marcus Daily4/7/2010 11:57 AM
@Jeremy, It would take less than a weekend to organise a Rugby World Cup. Catering for like 16 teams of which only 6 are competitve is easy stuff mate....look what we did when the IPL was brought here. Football is whole new ball game...big teams, big names, big sponsors and big big money. Rugby, well is a minority game....small stuff.
Nick4/7/2010 11:50 AM
Who decided Maponya Mall was the right place to sell tickets only. I have been trying to get my hands on tickets for months with no success, i guess this is how SAFA wants it to be. They can kiss my cash good bye shortly. Thanks for nothing.
Milder4/7/2010 11:39 AM
I applied for tickets from day one in all the draws, NEVER GOT ONE ticket! Now they want to sell is all the rubbish that is left after all the good games and tickets was sold out to the people abroad! ha ha. YOu better learn that only if you look aftre the people whne you sold the good tickets will we care about helping you out with filling the staduims for the bad games! Then again we all know they will eventually give the tickets away to all the blacks just to fill the staduims! I hope this FWC fails big time! OUt country and government doesnt deserve this!
@ET and the rest complaining4/7/2010 11:36 AM
Seriously guys, grow up. Firstly, our LOC has already paid FIFA the amount promised to them for the SWC. Thus whatever we make since 2 months ago is profit for the country. And with ticket sales pretty much on par with what was the case in Germany 60-odd days before kick off, what are you lot complaining about? This will be one of the greatest events hosted in our country and it is a pity that so few of you are excited. I have my tickets and I have different supporter gear for every match. Bottom line is that if you lot cannot be happy and excited within yourselves, you will never be happy - no where - not even in Greater South Africa aka Australia
Spider4/7/2010 11:30 AM
Apply 6th time and 2 success. Looking forward to SWC. let hope they selling Category 4 for Durban in some match.
Saskia4/7/2010 11:25 AM
Can someone please tell me where I can buy tickets for the SWC in Durban ?
Warren4/7/2010 11:09 AM
Shame....I applied 7 times and got all my 24 tickets!! Am I the only one looking forward to this world cup??
Burgiesburnin4/7/2010 11:08 AM
Why cant a list of how many tickets are still available for each game be issued.Or a list of the sold out games? I couldnt get tickets for the England games but would like to go to one or two others. If there was a list then I could decide which ones are the "best" for me to see.
John4/7/2010 11:00 AM
I applied for tickets on line just over a week ago since then I have had no response to my appication, after events over the Easter weekend, Malema with uncle Bob in Zim, another farmer murdered (unprotected ET), if I am successful in receiving tickets, I will not use them, Malema can have them, he can take Bob with him!
Dah 4/7/2010 11:00 AM
FIFA has lost the plot a very long time ago. They have no soul and are just an organisation manking money a good Capitalist model. I care a flying pig about the SW Cup it has only cost the poor the right to education housing basic services. All the technology that they want peole to use, goodness many of our people can not read or write how on earth are they supposed to use technology. A Waste of Money and Time. Just my oponion.
david4/7/2010 10:53 AM
I applied twice for tickets, 1st phase and last phase. Both amounts came to around R7000. But I got declined by fifa. So what the hell is this? PEE OFF FIFA, If some one applies and does not get, thats wrong. I applied and nothing, Thanks for a crap world cup.
Bob4/7/2010 10:50 AM
I'd prefer it if they stick to the "...if you're to dumb to use the internet and too stingy to pay lots..." attitude. Better quality of spectators for me to sit next to. Now I'll have to share oxygen with Maponya mongrels.
so unfair4/7/2010 10:47 AM
I hope Fifa has another office thats more accessable to the rest of the public.
ET4/7/2010 10:38 AM
What a lovely financial disaster this SWC wil be for SA!. Lovely stadiums and half completed access roads, Very few overseas visitors, billions and billions of un-repayable loans (to be funded by demoralized taxpayer), a nice profit for FIFA only, and worse fure unemployment, while homelessness stays the same as before. What a sad joke!
Hobbs4/7/2010 10:35 AM
There will be a pick up center in Sandton, as well as the other 8 Cities that are hosting the games... It is sad, but what can you do... we want full stadiums!!!
@Cheated4/7/2010 10:35 AM
I fully agree with you, am black but leave far away from Soweto. Perhaps is just the launch and then will have ticketing centres around GP...I so hope...
Zane4/7/2010 10:34 AM
Wow ... this just makes you think hey..... first you had to apply for tickets and now they are giving them away.... in plain business talk, it seems as if FIFA didnt get the sales they wanted??? I think the rest of the world are affraid to come to SA.... most foriegners are white and all this singing of kill the boer... man lets be honest, would you put your life in danger in Brazil, or eastern europe if the government was singing songs that were similar??? I want this SWC to be a success but they way our leaders are carrying on, Im starting to doubt the whole thing really... only time will tell
F4/7/2010 10:27 AM
This only simplifies it for people living in Soweto!!! What about the rest of us? If the aim is to get people to the stadiums come kick-off, the LOC will have to make tickets more accessible
STORMER4/7/2010 10:23 AM
I'm not sure how many "ordinary" South Africans will be alive to attend ANY games...
Jeremy4/7/2010 10:17 AM
With the RWC'95 we did not have all this nonsence. If you got a system that worked...without www-connectivity then....how can it NOT work with all the technology today? FIFA?
ET4/7/2010 10:16 AM
What a lovely financial disaster this SWC wil be for SA!. Lovely stadiums and half completed access roads, Very few overseas visitors, billions and billions of un-repayable loans (to be funded by demoralized taxpayer), a nice profit for FIFA only, and worse fure unemployment, while homelessness stays the same as before. Karen4/7/2010 10:12 AM
what about the rest of the country?? When and where is this going to role out? This is pathetic. Can FIFA get nothing right? My housekeeper lives in Mamelodi and she can't get tickets because she doesn't have a credit card and now you can buy them but we only know about Soweto!! WTF?? FIFA -wake up will you - this is not a launch of a product you idiots - this is for the nation to buy tickets. Your idea of marketing is dismal and your understanding of market even worse. You so need help!
Qminati4/7/2010 10:11 AM
@Cheated: The launch is at Maponya Mall...it's not that all tickets in the Jhb area will be sold from there. Details of other places / malls where tickets will be sold in this manner will be announced in due course; you just have to be patient. On the other hand, it may be that only the Maponya Mall will be operational on launch day and you may miss out because of the queues there that would have received first preference.
bzet4/7/2010 10:09 AM
Why only Maponya mall, what about other areas??? I am sure ppl from say Tembisa would like to buy tickets as well. I've had enough with this whole ticket sales fiasco, I have been applying for tickets with no luck, I was hoping to at least buy over the counter but now I can see my chances are not looking good. THIS IS CRAP
Jan Van Deventer4/7/2010 9:58 AM
It is sad that an event of this magnitude, with potential to put SA on the world tourism map for years to come, has been marred by high prices, sky high violence and crappy government service deliveries. FIFA is now forced to employ new avenues to sell tickets
Cheated4/7/2010 9:50 AM
This is a bit unfair. I have been applying for tickets since they came online and was unsuccessful because of the need to cater for the overseas fans first. Now a mall in Soweto will be selling the tickets on a first come basis which means the people will be queing from whatever time and I will not get a ticket. Why can't they give us 2 options - the mall in Soweto and another mall in perhaps central JHB for easy access for people living away from Soweto. This is not a racist issue but a convenience issue. Why does everything regarding SWC have to become so difficult???
Jacques4/7/2010 9:38 AM
I'd like to know what the FIFA refund policy is like. I allready have a couple of tickets, but fear that they will become worhtless in a couple of weeks. I will not be buying any more tickets thanks you.
