Munich - World football supremo Joseph Blatter made a big mistake when South Africa was elected host of the 2010 World Cup, Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness was quoted as saying on Wednesday.

Hoeness told the local Muenchner Merkur daily that he will not travel to the June 11 to July 11 tournament which faces new security concerns and low ticket sales.

"I was never a friend of a World Cup in South Africa and Africa as long is the security issue is not 100 percent solved," Hoeness said.

"Mr Blatter had to have his way, I always considered it wrong. Now you have to make the best out of it (but) I am convinced that deep down Mr Blatter has realised that giving the World Cup to South Africa was one of the biggest wrong decisions he ever made."

Security has always been a key issue around the World Cup, but it was raised again after three men died earlier this month when gunmen attacked the Togo team at the African Cup of Nations in Angola.

However, South African officials insisted that everyone will be safe at the World Cup.

Poor ticket sales for the World Cup have also been reported, with a news conference on the issue scheduled for later on Wednesday in Johannesburg.

What are you saying now?

Every country has its crime spots and it's common sense to find out where they are and avoid them. We have hosted the cricket and rugby world cup- we don't need the Gernmans to make out we are a 3rd World nation, if it was so bad why are 56% of our visitors from Germany!!!
ree2/5/2010 1:27 PM
when its Africa then everybody makes a meal how pathetic, Israelis were killed in germany during some Olympics years back, this german is a retard!!
Alex Nel2/3/2010 1:59 PM
The Europeans fear of security here is laughable. The big rule to keep yourself safe is this : dont do anything stupid. Served me well for 30 years. First they said we wont be able to build enough stadiums. We did. Then they said they wont be completed in time. They are. Then they said it might be sub-par standards. Its not. Then they said tickets wont sell We sold 2 million. Now they hold on to the security concern because its the last obstacle they can hang on to to complain about. 100% security ? wheres that mr. Hoeness? No terrorist threat in USA or london for example ? ridiculous.
Joe2/2/2010 3:19 PM
All people whos dont wanna come here... Please stay away!!! That means more tickets available for us here in S.A!!!
Mark2/2/2010 12:47 PM
Stay away is all i say, the crime is rampant and so is the president , the amoutn of prostituets and the level of aids according to UN figures 52% of the country has it. With a president that has kids from every women on every corner and kill a tourist a day slogan , Blatter what where u thinking. Throughout europe there is a a lot of no go to SA going on and i fully agree. I ahve had crime happen to me and 6 othes in our party during the cricket tour trust me you dont want to go.
morne2/1/2010 2:26 PM
POOR TICKET SALES - what do you expect from a country with RUGBY as their 2nd religion?? We are RUGBY's best. Nevertheless I still say that we will host the best soccer WC ever. Stay in your own countries and miss out on a spectacle never to be repeated.
Eric2/1/2010 2:13 PM
The ignorance and aggression of so many of these postings would appear to suggest that Hoeness has a point.
Kevin Williams1/31/2010 9:44 PM
What a load of crab. I am surprised it made the e-paper..Oh I forgot it is managed by Europeans..... I have traveled extensively the last 10 years. Europe, middle-east - North Africa etc...Ask the germans that is still sitting up camp in SA, ask those who ran away to NZ,Auszieland etc...that returned, ask the Rugby Sevens teams, ask the millions of tourists that flock into SA..You are talking BS,BS,BS no other word. You need to be taken to task for saying what you are saying. But we as South Africans come a long way....Long Walk to 2010...VIVA Afrique DeSud.

I am surprised by the comments made by the said stupid idiot. I would like the public to know that Germany has seconded one of its Technical Directors to SAFA to assist with coaching education. This has been happening for almost the past ten years. If South Africa was such a bad country as Hoeness sees it would they do that. When Germany stole the 2006 FWC from us they were not aware that they would have to miss the next opportunity. Just like Dempsey who died due the heart attack as well as the guilty consciousness of his betrayal, Hoeness will also follow, but not before he witnesses the successful world cup which South Africa will have. This bastard must start preparing for his funeral which will be caused by the heart attack. No wonder why Bayern Munich is performing so badly especially in the Uefa Cup, he is damn worried about South Africa hosting the World Cup to the extent that he thinks it is the Uefa Cup that is coming to South Africa. You will eat humble pies come the 11 July 2010.
DUMANI1/29/2010 3:12 PM
I've lived in London, traveled Europe and they are worse but alot more camouflaged to our naked eye because we as african are not haters or as petty as so see negative in everthing that is not native to us, so we should not focus our energies on such, its erelevent, let them stay where they are, "safe" for now though Africa is the last standing Continent come God on our side! "everything associated with black is not good hey" and thats whites mans supremacy they feel over us!
sean1/29/2010 1:44 PM
@ Steve - You are entitled to your opinion , no probs !! By the way , I do Live in S.A for the past 37 years , make my money here and I love it , but but but I do have a house in Germany and Australia ! So if shi..t realy hits the fan I`m gone , unlike poor f....s like you !! So you make the best of it , enjoy while it lasts ! Why don`t you move to Zimbabwe for a while , so you can get used to living Africa !!
Chris1/29/2010 10:39 AM
Who does this Uli character think he is, just of what happened to the Togo national team and now he thinks the whole of Africa is some kind of War zone where we just shoot people and stab them just because the are foriegn .He must not come here at all and i do not think after such a statement he should be respected as a football professional, he must just stay in his country of origin I mean we do not need such publicity!!!
Steve1/29/2010 2:37 AM
Sean you are definately an a-hole of note. Probably one of these overseas idiots who couldn't even find South Africa on a map. What has germany got to offer - nothing. The pommies should have finished you all off.
Ryan1/29/2010 12:04 AM
Umm... it's OK to disagree with what Uli Hoeness has said regarding the SWC in South Africa, but what has the Munich Olympic attack that occured 38 years ago & Nazi atrocities of WW2 which was over 65 years ago got to do with the problems that South Africa is going to face hosting the World Cup THIS YEAR? Whether you agree or not with Germany hosting the competition in 2006, they did it VERY successfully and the tournament will be remembered for years to come for all the right reasons - can that same thing be said about South Africa with any real confidence at the moment? Time will tell, but as a recent visitor to your picturesque country there is absolutely no denying the social & economic problems that are still very much obvious to newcomers from overseas (I live in Australia, by the way, not that it should matter, but no doubt I will potentially get told on here to "f*** off home & f*** a kangaroo" as I was on my last visit to South Africa two years ago). South Africa has a lot of amazing things to offer but until the government there awknowledges the horrific crime that is present in all sections of society and creates a fair environment for people of all races (some people here are led to believe this is now the case there - err after seeing it firsthand, wrong! if anything it's worse now) then it will always be a destination that people approach with a lot of hesitation.

Comments against the writer without any doubt simply prove that his remarks are correct. Vistors, beware.
@sean1/28/2010 6:09 PM
u dont need a german to justify u using the K word. u use it anyway so whats the diffs? stop trying to justify your narrow mindedness and pack for berlin - life's better there
sean1/28/2010 5:15 PM
Not that I like Hoeness at least he spoke his hounest opinion ! Now one German says something that upsets South Africans and suddenly all the Germans are called Nazi`s ! FFS get over it ! If they satrt calling the Germans nazi`s can I use the ``K`` for Africans ??? What is the diff ? Soon S.A will become the crime capital of the world , atleast they will be no 1 at something , definitely not soccer and the way politics run in this country , nor cricket or rugby !! What many of you rude idiotic South Africans dont understand , S.A needs as many overseas tourists as possible !!! Go on , follow the rest of Africa........................... One BIG F...K UP ! Oh ! Sh..t , I forgot , it is not your fault , it`s those bloody white peoples fault !!! I`ts all there fault that rape ,murder and robbery stats in S.A are 2nd highest (per capita) in the world !! Have to go now , applying for a job at ESKOM ! lol
Baas @ ZED1/28/2010 4:18 PM
I see you said something about doing research before opening your mouth? Excuse me, did you do any? Eish, get back to wasting your employers time. Just follow the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_murder_rate
Dizzy Dazz1/28/2010 4:17 PM
Wot on earth qualifies this narrow minded ignorant neo nazi imbecile to make blanket statements about a country that he's probably never visited anyway? World Cup is coming to Afrika Uli, so build a bridge & get over it!
Baas @Solly1/28/2010 4:13 PM
Solly I think what is meant with "criminals under control" is that there will be a consequence to any crime. Where in South Africa, the average house burgular will do 100 break ins before being arrested once. That is out of control. I know this is difficult to grasp, don't even try.
Baas1/28/2010 4:10 PM
@Timeshare - Africa is Africa, what do you want to call it? Idiot. @Hoeness se m@e - It's not nice calling a German a Nazi, for all you know he can be Jewish. You are an educated person probably in a position at work where you don't belong. @Mfanomncane - Try not to swear, it shows how barberic the African community is. @Rob - I don't think naive is the word you were looking for, rather keep typing in Sotho, ok bro? @ProudlySA - your comment is very mature. You showed real insight. @BBB - What image would you have of a country that have 20000 murders a year and 500000 reported rapes? Bottom line, its because most of you losers havent been out of Jozi (or whatever you want to call rape capital). There is more murders in SA than murders in Iraq. SO SECURITY IS A PROBLEM. The real problem is giving idiots like you internet access. Its like Siera Leone, where you have kids with guns. AFRICA IS AFRICA.
sean1/28/2010 3:37 PM
@ Maurice Sekgogoba or is it Julius ? So Typical ! Now you want to blame all the bayern players !! Why dont you toy toy and necklace them !!! Because of idiots like you S.A will follow the rest of Africa !! The comment Hoeness made is obviously bad for S.A , but he has a point and that is a fact !
Solly1/28/2010 2:15 PM
Someone says SA is not in control of its criminals. People are stupid, how can we be in control of crimininals because criminals are those who are not under control in any country. Maybe in Europe criminals are told who to rob - that would be in control of your criminals.
Colin1/28/2010 1:53 PM
People were attacked in Angola so SA isn't safe??? You moron! That's like saying people are attacked in Columbia so the US isn't safe!! Someone get the man an Atlas!!!! Being on the same (very large!) continent does NOT make us the same country..Although in your eyes African is probably African hey... We all as bad at the other. Idiot! Take your bigotry elsewhere!
Maurice Sekgogoba1/28/2010 1:12 PM
Mr. Hoeness, we don't care whether you pictch up or not coz we this is not for you but Africans. Less ticket sales or not, World Cup in SA will prevail. Let me also call upon all SA teams to boycott any player ties with Bayern Munich team immedaitelly. SA players don't deserve to play for this team owned by a person who looked down on their country.
lion1/28/2010 11:49 AM
do you think we ride on elephants here ,.,.,.,.,.,.
Anti-NSA1/28/2010 11:48 AM
Deutschland über alles. Sepp and Danny will be red faced after the WC. German WC was the ONLY football WC which made a profit in all it's history. SA will hardly make a profit- we'll just have bad publicity, worse crime-if the ANC doesn't silence media reports with their intimidation.
ZED1/28/2010 10:52 AM
I agree with this FIFA guy, let them give RSA a chance and concentrate on building the over blotted untalented teams, so that they stand a chance to win the World Cup!! Woza 2010!!
ZED1/28/2010 10:47 AM
Ignorance is bad and we should learn to do more research before we make any comments, i believto Sir Hoeness checked his facts before making his comments which makes him look dull. I visited RSA for the Confed Cup and was impressed with the organisation and security, in any society they're areas which are no go areas
sean1/28/2010 10:39 AM
@Sanibonani ! I worked for 7 years and put my life on the line to make S.A a better place !! Just don`t forget , it`s not Africa`s WC , Its FIFA`s . Fifa will smile to the bank all the way :) Why dont you become a cop , see how long you will last ? How many police officers has S.A got ? How many of them are corrupt ? If it wasn`t for private security companies............ Because of guys like you the wrong African leaders will lead , enrich themselves while the rest starve of hunger around them !! Btw , Australia isn`t to bad , but I still love S.A
sean1/28/2010 10:23 AM
@THEMBA ! I see you have alot of time on hand to write s...t :) ! Why do you have to state that you are black ?? Do you suffer from a complex ? 1st of all , Germany had the most successful world cup ever , I take my hat of to them ! It will be hard to host a better and more successful wc and to be fair one can not compare 1st world to 3rd world countries ! Allthough the leaders try and act like 1st world countries while the people that vote for them starve of hunger . I call that ``africanism`` 2ndly , maybe you are used to crime like most s.a`s , fact of the matter is , crime in S.A is from the highest in the world !!! Facts are facts and why now suddenly in the next 6 months will Zuma and co will rid S.A of crime , yeah right !! Fffs wake up !! For the 10th time , my personal opnion is that the WC will have more negative effects on the tax payers ( us poor fu...rs ) and the majority of S.A`s while the big boys and fifa make the cash !!!!!
ZONKIE1/28/2010 10:04 AM
Couldn't agree more. At least someone is brave enough to state in public what everyone else is thinking. Why else are so few tickets being sold to "celebrate africa's humanity"...
Sanibonani1/28/2010 9:50 AM
at sean a.k.a mr ex police officer... U r part of the problem!!! To all the tourists,,, come visit us, we shall work with the police to help curb these problems that are not indigenous to SA. We have com a long way to let petty comments like (seans) bring us down. Nd no, im not askin u to be patriotic, sean (a.k.a "mr officer") im telin u to watch in disgust as SA hosts a successful event this year,,, For all other thomases out there, we'll be glad to send u of to AUS where our fellow brothers are hiding!!!
Soapbox@Themba1/28/2010 9:27 AM
The comments on this forum gets read by many other people in the WORLD which include the Germans and the image we portrait as South Africans to them is that we don't need them, which means that less tickets gets sold!!! Calling a German a Nazi because Hitler in the 1940's was one is Stereotyping. Shame on all of you!!!!
Joel1/28/2010 9:19 AM
It amazes me how all the black South African people talk of being African and talk of your black african brothers and sisters up north but when something negative happens, like the Angola shooting, and Europeans link SA to Angola all of YOU start crying and moaning how far away they are and they have nothing to do with US but if something positive happens YOU`RE all full of praise and say welcome to Africa blah blah blah. `Take all you can, give nothing back`.

wow what a way for a German to show how idiotic he can get. i have always maintained that Germans are not that clever but i never had proof until now. who invited him ??
Nostradamus1/28/2010 8:59 AM
All the South African government worries about is how much money they can make from the SWC and other fraud scams. If people get killed, they will just shrug their shoulders and that will be the end of it. Every day, every week, every month and every year we read of brutal killing all over our country. Why haven't the ANC done anything about these killings? If they can secure the lifes of foreigners, then why can't they secure the lifes of the SA citizens ?? BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE. They are the corrupt ones and the more chaos there is, the easier it is to get away with their own mischief. More than 18,000 murders per year(that is 50 per day) in SA. That is more than 1700 people during the time of the SWC. How many foreigners will become part of this statistic?? 18,000 is more than the amount of people who get killed in some countries where there is an official war. I challenge the ANC, restore law and order in SA. Get rid of your corrupt police force and army. And to all foreigners: if you love your life, stay away!!
spindoc1/28/2010 8:50 AM
if crime is not an issue in south africa ...why do i have to live behind high (prison)walls and electric fences...and why am i told every week in a newsletter(via post)that when I come home i should stop....close all my windows...check around the area...drive in gate....put car in reverse just in case somebody tries to enter????No it's time that people realise what we have become used to in SA is NOT NORMAL!!!There is serious crime and it is an issue...it's just that certain people cannot handle the truth.....nuff said!!
Dave Robbins1/28/2010 8:48 AM
Those people who bring up the issue of the 1972 Munich Games forget that it was specific (i.e. the Israeli athletes) target that the terrorists went for. Here, the target for criminals is much bigger, namely all the spectators (and we are talking hundreds of thousands) who attend the SWC. And the spectators know that, hence the low ticket sales. SA must concentrate on a zero tolerance to crime rate over the next 6 months AND BEYOND if it is to attract tourists now and in the future.
Mike1/28/2010 8:38 AM
I am sure this is all just blown out of proportions. SA is a safe country just like any other European country... Just check the headlines in the newspapers: "Famous Austrian Burgstaller football player shot in golfclub" - up until today the sentencing for the 2 murderers is unknown. "Girl raped dead after eyes were gouged out and stabbed in the stomach" "Girl raped, then hanged to death" "Mother of two raped at police station" "White female raped by officers in police uniform" ""Farmer in northern SA attacked on his farm then shot dead" "SA murder rate ~50/day higher than in war zones" ...sounds all quite normal to me. Does it? Or perhaps England and Germany have a point here ?
Tshepo Leopeng1/28/2010 8:33 AM
I need to re-iterate what Gladstone says here: there were other big sporting events here before, rugby world cup, cricket ipl, swimming and other countries come here every other month as teams.what's wrong with this world cup. I rest my case Gladstone. I don't even know why we are entertaining this. Thank you.
Themba1/28/2010 8:27 AM
@Cool heads Here are a couple of facts 1. It was FIFA that gave South Africa the chance to host the event, as much as it was FIFA that gave Germany the chance to host the 2006 World Cup, even though one can argue that they bought the right by bribing a New Zealander. 2. We have hosted other similar events in the past (granted not as popular) which have brought millions of people into the country and there has been little in terms of effect on foreigners. Question is, were you as concerned them as you are now? 3. Most of the crime in SA (in fact over 80%) is between who know each other. 4. It was in Jamaica that a coach was killed in his room 5. It was in Germany that athletes were massacred 6. Africa has hosted other events and the record is good even including the incident in Angola involving Togo Yes, let us cool heads, but not only to embarrass our country, but to help the tourist remain safe in our country. What will taking the world cup away from us sort out? Each time the bad news is peddled about our country, it affect us, and not only the politicians. It is idiotic to cut your nose to spite your face
Roy Roux1/28/2010 8:25 AM
Talk is cheap with our leaders. Only really stupid people believe them when they say that South Africa is safe. I can say that as a multiple victim of crime. I was even bullied by three police officers the day before Xmas as they threatened to "arrest" me if I did not show them a bit of consideration (their way of soliciting a bribe). Soccer is a great game, but you need more than a few new stadiums in order to stage a soccer world cup; you need for your spectators to be able to get into the stadiums and back to their homes without being mugged, highjacked, robbed, stabbed or murdered, the typical experience of any law abiding, tax payer in the South Africa of today.
Piet1/28/2010 8:24 AM
Let the truth be told! This country is a corrupt, violent, crime ridden cesspool - those who'd like to come here must have their heads read. Those who defend it - let's see YOU change your tune when it is YOUR loved ones murdered and raped. The SWC's only success will be in making some 'comrades' stinking rich and the rest of SA will pay for it for years to come.
Themba1/28/2010 8:17 AM
@Mike Hunt Actually, Hitler was born in Austria but was German, idiot. He was the Leader of Germany, meaning he had German citizenship

@Mandy - nice rant... but you should not call people who do not know their geography "IDJITS". If you think that Spain and China is on the same continent... it comes back to bite you! But I agree.... IDJITS!!!
Themba1/28/2010 8:16 AM
@Soapbox I think you are the dumb *** to believe that one idiot would fill up all the stadiums. Where did you learn your maths?
Themba1/28/2010 8:14 AM
@Sean I am very well travelled myself, well educated and black. I have lived in other countries including the USA where I have been scared for my life. I have been advised about areas not to bother visiting in Paris, Los Angeles, New York City, Berlin, etc South Africa is a country where most of the crime is between people who know each other. Of the 50 murders a day (assuming the police stats are correct, which is an assumption and a half), 45 are between people who know each other (father murders his wife and children, grandson murders his grandma, etc). Only 5 out of the 50 is in the commission of a crime against a stranger, which makes the danger to tourists similar to the danger one would expect in Munich. Was it in Munich when terrorists killed Israeli athletes? Yet, Germany was rewarded with a World Cup and several other events

The SWC will not be never be a success for people like Sean and the rest of these skeptic cronies - there will always be something wrong. There are crime and violence in other parts of the world also (yes, Sean, other people have traveled and lived abroad as well). The US and European countries all have problems with violent crimes at some stage. I am not saying the problem in South Africa is anything other than huge, but it is not only a problem in SA. Other major sporting events have been held very successfully in the past - Rugby WC, Cricket WC, Athletics, Soccer, Swimming - without incident. For the SWC security is heavier than for any of those events, so why would this be any different?
Schmalz1/28/2010 7:24 AM
Don't judge the Germans because of this Hoeness nut case. His profession he learned when he was young was butcher and nothing has changed. He is a hard worker but belongs to the low class in Germany. Forgive him he does not know any better. The Germans are an Angstvolk. It does not mean that they are scared but you dare to make a mistake. So Hoeness being a bit thick just reads what's in the Bild News paper and agrees with it. Don't make mistakes or be wrong. He has retired from the FCM and so let us leave him alone while we enjoy our world cup here in South Africa. He is just jealous of the far more cultured Sepp Blatter.
@ Sean1/28/2010 2:12 AM
Pity that in your extensive travels you didn't learn to spell South Africa correctly! ;) But I do agree with you. Did you know that if you can boil a frog to death without it realising. All you have to do is increase the temperature slowly enough. That is what South Africa is doing to it's citizens with crime. It's only once you step out of the water for a while that you realise how hot it actually is.

@ arthur !! You clearly haven`t seen the whole wide world out there ! I live in africa for the past 37 years (born here) ! Not my fault I`m educated , can`t help it , lol ! Travelled the world and Africa extensivly , so I think you should rather stfu !! Not my fault I`m not narrow minded , lol !!! What many South-Africans take as normal day to day activity (CRIME THAT IS) Is not normal , but they already accept it as normal ! THAT IS A PROBLEM !! Anyway enjoy the world cup and yes S.A is a beautiful country , just a pitty it is being destroyed and fools like you will cry one day !!!

Regarding security , the government couldnt provide security for south-africans for the last few years and now suddenly in 6 months everything will be fine ???? Yeah right !!! Anyway , you positive folks out there , enjoy it and have fun :)

As a South African or an African for that matter, I think it is high time that morons like these are left alone with their wrong opinions, some of them have never to Africa and they get contract extensions in their teams because Africans are performing better, however subjected to continous racisms which I call a security threat to humankind.

so where do all you guys that say that we do not have a security problem live.South Africans are hi jacked and murdered on a daily basis. They do not even feel safe in their own homes. From an outsider point of view that german has a point.I see plenty houses here that look like prisons. Why would people want to have barbed wire electric fencing, not walk in the neighbourhood at night if it was so safe here?

@ Cassandra, no, tickets will not be discounted or given away. Only the stadium workers get 2 tickets each. Tickets sales are going well as can be seen here: http://www.sport24.co.za/Content/Soccer/WorldCup/383/771064087fb8462cb4603a61ee35ae7a/27-01-2010-06-46/2m_tickets_sold_for_SWC, and almost 2/3rds are sold. Trust me, come the WC all tickets will be sold. As for those saying that SA shouldn't host the World Cup, get over it. It is happening, join us and enjoy it, or please just shut up!

Security is at a bottom of our problems conserning the world cup on top Should be Bafana bafana and 2 low ticket sales. Maybe his reading ability is not so good South Africa and Angola are two different countries and Angola is bludy 2092 km away from us..nx

With all that has been said, the fact remains that the World Cup is happening. Mr. Hoeness is allowed his opinion no matter how skewed it may be. Europeans will always throw the "we are far superior" act and we just need to ignore it. I'm not forgetting that we do have a crime issue but I think the event will be largelty successful if past events are anything to go by. Slow tickets sales are largely contributed by high ticket prices which Fifa should have calculated into their planning. We are a long haul destination and then still to ask rediculous ticket prices is insane. Go SA 2010!
sean1/27/2010 4:43 PM
regarding @ SEAN ! You don`t understand my point , fool !! Just wait and see ! I was in the police force for 7 years , resigned 2 years ago because I got married and have kids now :) If people would realy know the crime stats , I promise you , no sensible foreigner will come to S.A !! So all you positive (self-bull shitting) people out there , do you home work :) Just wait and see what will happen to the stadiums . I still maintain , the money spent on fifas SWC , note FIFA`S soccer world cup , not S.A`s ! Who do you think make all the money from the WC ......hint hint , tv rights !! IS THE MAN ON THE STREET GOING TO GAIN MUCH FROM THE WC ?? Im talking about the majority of S.A !!
REALIST1/27/2010 4:43 PM
This country is a fake, the promotion of the SWC is a pack of lies. The normal SA citizen thanks god every morning that they weren’t woken up in the middle of the night by robbers, rapists or violent psychopaths. Everything is about image to the ANC, but underneath it is a filthy stinking quagmire waiting to erupt and spew its filth all over us peace loving citizens, it already spits on us daily. Malema, Zuma, Mbeki, agggg please, these martyrs of tokenism have done sweet bugger all for the poor or society in general. They opened the zoo gate in 1994 and stepped aside, letting the animals run wild. They have merely lined their pockets and with the spoils of our labours. What makes me sick is that the government are going all out to protect foreigners, but their own citizens are left to get their throats slit, wives raped and possessions violently taken from them. WHATEVER. The ANC shoukld be tried for being responsible for thousands of farm deaths, they turn their heads like guilty dogs.

Maybe the world cup is there to open the eyes to the common problems we have and to actually deal with them. Imagine how much less would have been done regarding crime and infrastructure if it was not for the world cup. Now our country needs to do something because the world is watching....
T the Terrible 1/27/2010 4:19 PM
What happened at the Munich Olympics way back then Mr Hoener poep hol !!! Security, Security, Security !! Got a point though so let's take this great opportunity and prove them wrong like we did with the 1st democratic elections.
Cassandra1/27/2010 4:14 PM
A quick question on the subject of poor ticket sales - when the event starts and they're stuck with big quantities of unsold tickets, will they offer them for sale at a cheaper price to the public or will they give them away to fill the stadia? Is that against the Fifa regulations or how does it work?
fikile1/27/2010 4:03 PM
Aha! at last someone with guts. I'm black and excited about the SWC...but can now see no benifit and more missery on us poor. The goverment is lying to us and they themselves, crime and aids is now our biggest enemy...not the white anymore!
@Everyone1/27/2010 4:01 PM
Stop arguing u fools. I have looked into my crystal ball AND.... SA will have the WC, it wont be successfull due to poor infrastructure. There will be a few incidents of crime at a slightly lower rate than usual. Then once all the forieghners have gone the normal ridicluous crime levels will return. Enf Of, Period, Kabish?!!
Soccer Lover1/27/2010 3:59 PM
All you idiots have missed the point of hosting a World Cup. Its not about building stadiums , airports roads etc and filling them with poor South african spectators. Its about attracting tourists from all over the world that will benefit our population at large and not just the SAFA bosses. The World Cup is not just about the 4 weeks in which the games are being played but beyond that and only tourism will make these games a success. We have done a great job on the infrastructure but a dismall job on portraying our country including solving our security situation. And time is running out so thanks to our terrrific goverment for cocking up and making South Africans pay again!

despite the fact that we have a higher murder rate then germany. When is one muder to much. How do you think the families of these victimes feel.Do they say well at least we dont live in RSA because it could have been worse. So by having a lower murder rate doesnt make the country 100% safe. Why do people get murderd in germany when they are are a 1st world country. Shawn1/27/2010 3:47 PM
50 people on average are murdered in SA everyday, most of us refuse to be negative, however do any of realise that more people die a day in our own country, than what die in Iraq and Afganistan combined everyday, and those 2 countries are official war zones!! as a proud South African I truely hope we host the best world cup ever, but instead of blaming the other countries for raising their security concerns I think we should be realistic and say their concerns are not without reason. we have alot of criminals running around, our prisons are at 136% full, so even if they start arresting criminals like mad, where they going to put them? These guys have a point and they are looking at this realistically.
Shadhiyi1/27/2010 3:46 PM
Sad, sad, sad. You know, as much as i'd love to throw a fit right now, i can't. I kinda understand where his coming from. I mean, blame it all on the LOC. They are the ones who made 2010 an "African" thing. Really, South Africa has it corruption issues and whatnot, but we have hosted other world events without problems. The shit started when Danny Jordaan and his people threw South Africa in the same pot as the rest of the continent. That's why whenever something bad happens, 4thousand and more kilometers from SA, concerns are made about the WC. We are proud to be part of this continent, but seriously why couldn't this WC be SOUTH African? What role did, for example, Tunisia and Ethiopia play in SA getting to host the WC? It wasn't necessary to make Africa the main theme, that should have just been an obvious detail.People from the world all over never had issues coming for visits in SA, that is evident in our thriving tourism stats. Now this whole "this will be an African WC" is bitting us in our arses.

If you are smart, you dont sound like a very smart.Heres a piece of advise. you should realise that there is a time and place for everything. Now is not the time to be anti RSA, because you know what. Should your wishes come true and this SWC flops who do you think will pay the bill , yes you my friend . Unless you run away to one of your safe havens, which has no crime, good luck in finding one.We are not blind to the fact that RSA does have the problems, the very same problems you mention, but unlike you we will try and make this thing work. because not only will RSA benefit from this but, us true south africans will move forward together.

lWAZI1/27/2010 3:20 PM
Dont quite understand the negativity, we've hosted sucessfully major world cups with no concerns. I think the gentleman is complaining about security from terror attacks rather than crime. He is but one of the multitute of ignorant europians who think africa is but one country. They doubted that we will finish the stadiums on time, they doubted that our stadiums will be state of the art, they had issues with our transport system, accomodation, they had a plan B the least is endless. the fact of the matter is we are prepared for this world cup like no othe host country had been prepared before. Let us embrace it, be part of the solution rather than a problem. As far as security is concerned, there is no where to hide, no single country is safe. Just the other say, the superpower that is america, with the best security profile in the world almost failed to stop a plane from being blown up. Any of us could have been on that plane.
EWM1/27/2010 3:20 PM
Germany has a population of 82 million with an average of 800 murders each year. South Africa has a population of 49 million with a stagering 24000 murders per year. These facts speak for themselves. Instead of lambasting those that are fearful of our crime rate, we should be ashamed of this fact and once and for all address the issue of crime.
Reginald1/27/2010 3:19 PM
i dont see the point in arguing about this.We are having the world-cup & thats that.We hosted 2 rugby world cups, cricket, with all there stars, golf tornaments & we have international & world famous celebrities doing concepts here all the time & nothing happens here. The fact that when we became a unified country after 1992,without any problems or conflict, shows that we have what it takes to do anything that any country can also do.Stop judging our country people.

Cool heads1/27/2010 3:11 PM
Stop a moment and think. Judging by the comments (and the terrible grammar, and even worse spelling in the comments), the hotheads have the day. But we may still get a silk purse out of the sow's ear of a world cup that is the being sold to South Africans. Firstly, if that German says things like this publicly, it may indicate that all is not well in Fifa circles and that if the world cup is perceived to be an error on Sepp Blatters part, then there may be a movement to unseat Mr Blatter and his corrupt coterie. That can only be a relief. Secondly by being enormously embarrassed by the appalling level of crime, the South African government may also be motivated to do something about crime - not because of the world cup, but because it is the right thing to do (and, no "shoot the bastards" is not a constructive way to address crime). Cool heads. Lets wait and see
Kyle1/27/2010 3:10 PM
Well like every other country in the world, South Africa too has problems. Unlike other countries, the people of SA tend to get closer to each other and support each other during Big events. So Mr "Bayern Munich" stop worry about the World Cup and focus on your club. And I think the biggest problem would be those football hooligans from Europe who gets out of hand if there team loses. And to all my fellow Proudly South Africans come and lets show the world again why we are the Rainbow Nation.

@ Sean - Oh please...get your facts straight....We don't have enough money to fix our roads, our so called Police Force has managed to loose 3K firearms in the last year (don't know if it was lost or sold) therefore the tax payer has to buy and additional 4K firearms so that they can loose or sell them again. Stop fooling yourselve ye S.A. has hosted other WC but think about it SOCCER is a huge sport across the globe therefore the influx of people will be much greater than previous WC....
Themba1/27/2010 3:04 PM
Hitler was German too, so not too concerned about this idiot's outburst, but am concerned about SAPA's reporting. Any idiot that wants to make news need only criticise our hosting of the world cup and viola, they get reported by the local media without even questioning the stupid facts bandied around. The sales of the tickets are going well and this is a fact. The concern has been the system used in selling tickets. It is a shame to note such bad journalism once again. Can you imagine anyone else in Germany worried too much what someone outside of Germany thinks of them? Why do we worry so much what every idiot has to say. Germany won the world cup hosting contest through crookery and they did a good job of hosting it. We have hosted other big events before. Let this bloody Hitler stay in Germany

has ULI ever been to SA or attended a sports event here? was there a call to move the world cup from Germany due to the bombing in Madrid or London? will Britian be asked to give up the olympics or the chance of hosting in 2018 due to the London bombings or the bomb in Ireland? Africa is not one country and although we have crime problems we ran the Confed cup without problems Blatter was right to give a continent a chance as it has more countries than Europe and Germany only got awarded the world cup by default when a member from New Zealand failed to vote as instructed by his association. Cricket Rugby have had faultless events over the last 16 years so what are you so frightened of ULI do you need someone to hold your hand. we saw the conduct of german and Dutch supporters at the European championships so people in glass houses should not throw stones. COME VISIT but just take precuations as you would in any major city. ONE LAST QUESTION will you go to Brazil as i hear there is some crime in Sao Paulo and Rio or will you still cower in Germany the land where Isrealies were slaughtered at your olympics? send me your tickets because i cant get any on FIF's site!!!!
Dark Africa1/27/2010 2:57 PM
Once again we as South Africa will show the world why we are a 3rd world country, we cannot try to rid ourselves of crime for the world cup it is not only the rich that suffer the poor suffer the moste and we think that hosting this event will benefit them. How stupid can one bee, wake up man stop wating for an outsider to show us our own stupidity.
Wake up1/27/2010 2:56 PM
Wake up people. If this is what this fool is thinking then, how many others in Europe are thinking the same???? Screw him, yes, but that doesn't help us to get the 1000's of people here that we need to make this a success!! All your attitudes are wrong, we need a convince them that this is africa and, yes, it is a rough and can be violent. Also there is lots more to our country than the cities and the football stadiums. We must be very concerned about statements like this.
Frank1/27/2010 2:54 PM
I truly hope that it’s not ordinary South Africans that post comments on these forums. If it is we are a sad bunch of people. I can’t believe how negative people are... No one denies the crime rate, no one denies corruption but why should that stop us (good ordinary South Africans) from moving forward. Because we have problems (and believe me we are not the only country with problems - Europe included) does that mean we should just curl up and surrender to these thugs? By denying ourselves the privilege to be on the world stage and to host events like this we would be admitting defeat. Funny, I always thought South Africans where fighters. It looks like (according to these responses) we are all just a bunch of wingers after all.
L Savage1/27/2010 2:53 PM
I am going to add my voice to the chorus of boos at this fool Hoeness. I am not going to be naive and pretend that SA is perfectly safe. Its not. But the level of danger is definitely far lower than some paranoid idiots believe. The fact that he is quoting events in Angola recently as his evidence of the dire situation in SA is a clear indication of how clueless he is, and a warning to any thinking person that his comments should be dismissed as baseless and uninformed. Certainly they are no more substantiated than a warning to stay out of his country because of massive genocides in places like Bosnia and Herzogovina, which are but a stones throw away from Germany. Or how about the fact that the entire Israeli Olympic Team was murdered during Munich's Olympics?

No mater how well the WC is run it will only take one or two Robberies /murders /rapes and that is all the news will concentrate on. Lets face it the government/ police can even look after law abiding South African how will the be able to look after all these foreigners and if is so easy to look after them and keep them safe why can’t they do it for tax paying South African every day. Because all this WC is about is a few big boys at the top, government and there brothers all filling there pockets. It has nothing to do with showing everyone how great SA is they don’t care they only care about themselves. The German is right and you all know it because if you are a South African your life has been affected one way or another by crime and it sucks and now the rest of the world will see it first hand.

oh my ... and they only realise now that SA is a security risk. how much more do they need? not even our own people want to go to the soccer games ... firstly u need to apply and secondly bafana couldn't even make it on their own into the world cup but because we're the hosting company they have to play ... shame so sad! only world cups that worked was cricket and rugby does that not say something?
Mr "K"1/27/2010 2:30 PM
We hosted a number of international events in the county and now everybody is making a fuss about the world cup. After all we are Proud South Africans and we are going to show the world 1nce more we can host a world event.Bayern Munich CAN PISS OFF!!! Security is an issue all over the world.

@ Sipho said so - that's exactly what the man is referring to. What would be done to peoples wifes and children.....you just don't get it do you? South Africans have become use to children and women been raped and all the horrible crimes that take place, the rest of the world has not!!! If I never lived in S.A. I to would not want to come here because of people like you....

This Kraut is a complete idiot. We hosted the Rugby World Cup, Cricket World Cup, T20 World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy, IPL, etc. all without incident. What's his problem all of a sudden. There is probably more violence amongst the football fans at games throughout Europe than what we will see during the SWC

@Patriot, just go to http://www.nationmaster.com/country/sf-south-africa/cri-crime I don't agree with everything these people are saying but if you visit this page you will see that Kobus is not too far off. You are only insulting your own intelligence by trying to insult us "boers" with a comment like that.
Roy1/27/2010 2:25 PM
Europe has been minting it on the SWC as a home and away tournament since its inception. The loss of revenue to Germany and rest of Europe is what the Nazi is bitching about. It is now on a rotation system with Asia, Africa, Europe, North Amercia and South America. Nothing else. As a South African we should not join the bandwagon and the cricket WC and Rubgy WC went well. The SWC will be a success. Join us as true SAfricans and supporters and be part of change and rid your heart of hatred and envy.
Deric1/27/2010 2:25 PM
Thats right, carry on saying the Angola attack has nothing / will have nothing to do with the FWC in SA. Wait till is happens right here with players and tourists dying. They should have moved the tournament away from here long ago, but Ignorance is bliss...
Bill1/27/2010 2:24 PM
This guy is from Munich? I seem to recall a wee security problem at the Munich Olympics a while back? Guys with guns and all.....
@Patriot1/27/2010 2:24 PM
@Patriot. I don’t know what exactly it is your moaning about the figures Kobus mentioned. According to the Official SOUTH AFRICAN CRIME STATISTICS (www.issafrica.org), There was 18148 murders during 2009. Now my maths is not so brilliant but if divide that with the 365 days in a year, you get a figure of 49,7. Round that and you DO get 50 murders per day. So perhaps Kobus just did some homework and did not from his "braai talk with ur mates" . . .. Broer
Greg1/27/2010 2:24 PM
To all you guys who are pro SA for the WC2010 - get the blinkers off you bunch of morons. He obviously knows something that Blatter and our corrupt government is not telling us. Oh wait, as I live here and have been a victim of crime, it could be that. Oh wait, how much money are a few people going to get. I grease your palm, you grease mine.....
Andre1/27/2010 2:23 PM
Mr Uli Hoeness..how bout a big cup of shutdefukup!
Jaz 1/27/2010 2:23 PM
Crime in SA is bad. Period. But we should consider the threat by international terrorist groups. SA national security services have not had to deal with professional, trained terrorists for nearly 20 years. Do we have the expertise or capacity to prevent these groups from using the SWC as a stage for some or other devastating act? Maybe event multiple attacks? Tell me what's worse: a few persons mugged or robbed or potentially thousands being killed in a bomb explosion at one of the matches.
smart1/27/2010 2:22 PM
The man is right and I am a South African. If you don’t think South Africa has security problems you are living in La La land. It is the reason I took my family from SA just last year after coming back there to give it one last chance but the corruption, murder and rape just got to us after three years. It is just wrong to be scared to leave your house at night. Why do you think sales are so poor for the WC because people know when they come to SA the are going to be prime targets for getting robed and lets face it in SA you don’t just get robed you get murdered and you wife gets raped. Just read News 24 every day there is some story about it. No body is worried about the WC been run well but crime is out of control in SA and no one is doing anything about it.
Germandude251/27/2010 2:22 PM
I just have to share that I showed this article to my German Collegues here in Germany. Needless to say you guys have made a very good impression. Well done people all of you have really helped your case with these comments :-)
Tseleng1/27/2010 2:21 PM
The Munich massacre is an informal name for events occurred during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany, when members of the Israeli Olympic team were taken hostage and eventually murdered by Black September, a militant group with ties to Yasser Arafat’s Fatah organization, in a commando operation officially named "Ikrit and Biram", after two Christian Palestinian villages whose inhabitants were killed or expelled by the Hagannah in 1948.[3][4] By the end of the ordeal, the commando group had killed eleven Israeli athletes and coaches and one West German police officer, after five of the eight members of Black September were killed by police officers during a failed rescue attempt.[citation needed] The three surviving commandos were captured, and were later released by West Germany following the hijacking by Black September of a Lufthansa airliner. Israel responded to the massacre with Operation Spring of Youth and Operation Wrath of God, a series of airstrikes and assassinations of those suspected of planning the kidnappings and more generally of spokesmen for the Palestinian cause, as well as retributive bombings of refugee camps in Syria and Lebanon killing 50-200

My gratitude to all the South Africans who told Mr Hoeness where to get off. Pity to Others like Kos Botha, Chris and David Da Silva who still think that wisdom is confined to Europe.
Truth1/27/2010 2:20 PM
It is pathetic that South Africans have the ostrich syndrome and are in denial when we all know that crime and corruption really is a problem. Maybe we as South Africans should rather do something about it and fight this scourge rather than defend it

Steve1/27/2010 2:16 PM
Also ask yourself: how's the African Nations Cup going in Angola? Is this a stuff up? Doesn't look like it to me. And this is in a nation that until very recently was in a complete state of civil war, and now probably has huge amounts of corruption and violence, and that terror attack was actually in Anglo (Cabinda). How many people have been robbed, stabbed, murdered etc at the event? Anyone know? No, you don't know because there probably hasn't been any. Most of you are keen to tell this German where to get off, which is good, but I feel very sad for the few South Africans who seem to be wishing for the SWC to be a failure.

Our police force is so corrupt that you don't want to have to contact them for anything.....Lets be realistic and give the guy some credit for actually speaking out.....
@Charl and all the other racist1/27/2010 2:13 PM
Funny how these stats were not revealed when your people where killing black people. now that its the other way around you notice its a problem. people with a problem with SA should leave and go where ever they think its safe, this isn't your country anyway. The world cup is going to happen in SA and there is no turning back now so except it your stupid comments won't change anything
BONGZA1/27/2010 2:13 PM
It is my prayer that people will be proven wrong, because I see this is not about security issue its all jealousy and greed of people who think that as Africans we dont deserve the best.God is taking this African continent to another level let all the Thomasis watch us as we progress
Genevieve1/27/2010 2:12 PM
we know theres crime everywhere. but we are talking about SA here during the WC, people are gonne get run over by taxis. and thats the least of the problem - stop ranting and be aware that this man has a point, criminals are gonna have a ball COMITtING CRIIIIIIIME. show me a murduring rapist who would NOT rob a rich tourist. Tourists will definately not be 100% safe they better know that when they come here. thats all this oke is pointing out and hes got a valid damn point.

sean1/27/2010 2:11 PM
What S.A`S don`t realize !!!!!! Crime is one of the biggest problems !!! The fans (the big boys with the cash) , will not come because of security reasons , let`s be sensible now ! S.A`s crime rate is so f#$n high and now the goverment wants to fix the problem in 6 months , but they had 14 effing years time !!! I live in S.A and I love S.A , but I`m just being realistic! Blatter made the mistake and now we are going to pay for it !! One can`t realy compare Germany to S.A (1st world country and 3rd world country) , but Germany did make a success of it , because the infrastructure , security and stadiums were there already , I`m talking about ground plan here ! Just over 60% of costs to stadiums were paid by the soccer clubs themselves eg, bayern munich ! How much did the government spend on the stadiums and infrastructure in S.A ??????? What is going to happen to the stadiums afterwards ?? You think you can maintain top class stadiums by charging R20.00 entrance fee ?? Imagine all the money spend by S.A to host the world cup would have been spent on developement , infrastructure , schooling , tourism and security !! Which one would be more proffitable in the long run ?? Just my 2 cents !!!
Big Cheese1/27/2010 2:11 PM
To all those blindbats criticising Hoeness just answer one question : Are S A 's crime levels acceptable to you ? Forget about how close to or how far we are from Angola - just answer my question truthfully .Good Luck !
Carlos1/27/2010 2:11 PM

Tsotsi1/27/2010 2:10 PM
SWC successful. Debt afterwards for SA.... not so successful.
Simon1/27/2010 2:10 PM
It's always amusing how we bitch and moan(rightly so) about the security situation in SA when none of us know if we will make it through to the next day alive. But when an outsider makes the same comments, we jump down their throats in a way it would seem we live in a crime free country.
Mortlock1/27/2010 2:09 PM
The British Lions rugby tour attracted a full house of Lions supporters to SA - 20 thousand or more? (so many that there appeared to be more Lions supporters than Bok supporters at the matches?). So why is crime such an issue for SWC if it wasn't an issue for Lions rugby tests? Surely there will be 50 thousand Poms who want to come to SWC in SA? And ditto for Dutch, German, etc?
Francis Chochoma1/27/2010 2:08 PM
While everyone has the priviledge of having their opinion, it does not neccessarilly mean the same priviledge prevails when it comes to that opinion being taken seriously or being considered. I beleive mr Hoeness is entitled to his opinion and quite rightly he must not come to South Africa for the world Cup if he feels he wont be safe, and I am sure there is no one who will have a problem with that, It is this stereotyping that always draw us back to the stone age, it is quite unfortunate that to this day and age such a whole man of Houness stature stoop so low to utter, discriminatory, and such an anti people statement. It is my hope that this is only his stance which has nothing to do withthe German footbal fraternity and the more sober generality of the Germans at large. we wont miss you Sir
Tony Prins1/27/2010 2:08 PM
Can I buy a stabvest in SA? Tony

The year of the soccerball. What a joke! These so-called african boys and girls, who apparently all love and play soccer, not football(that's european), should rather study and get a real job. And to all those who cannot use grammar and spelling properly, stop vomiting your drivel on the forums!

The world cup will be a success, that morons blabber is only due to sensationalist liberal press criticising & exaggerating anything. Our National roads are among the best in the world our scenery is amazing the vibe is good & these guys have their own issues. When your pathetic team wins something come open your mouth again you sour kraut
Football Lover1/27/2010 2:02 PM
The chicken has come to roost! How long have South Africans voiced their concern about the high levels of crime and what has our goverment done about it- nothing! So intelligent people from overseas are asking themselves why should they risk coming to a tournament that has the potential of endangering their lives. Having recently been in Europe this is the foremost question from every soccer lover who wants to come but is not assured by our goverment that meaningful steps are being taken. The incident in Angola, although moons away, bears testimony to the risks associated with every African country including South Africa. Lets face it we remain a third world country with third world mentality and this is expressed by a winning world cup football hero from 1974 who has the stature to do so. I wish our goverment would take some proactive steps in the next couple of months to change the perceptions and reverse the poor ticket sales trend. But I hold my breath!
megakokonono1/27/2010 2:01 PM
When the SWC goes to Australia will it be safe for Indian dudes and all the so called people of colour? For me the safest place to host the all the subsequent SWC is SA. Crime can be dealt with day by day. Osama you'll never know when he will strike. All the countries that are bidding for 2018 going forward are on the serious radar of Mr Osama. If Blatter is a wise man he'll give us all SWC until European, Aussie and American moronsort their issues with Osama.
Poacher1/27/2010 2:00 PM
I cannot understand how the SWC will be different from the Confederations Cup. Das Germans are such woosies. One thing's for certain. Black South Africans just love the German CARS stukkend ;)
Herman1/27/2010 2:00 PM
I think we should be more worried about petty crime and improper planning. The real big mistake of appointing South Africa as the host nation is our own fault. We are spending billions on trying to look good but will see very little of that investment coming back due to poor management.
Grootbro1/27/2010 2:00 PM
Jason, it is very simple. Whether you and I believe it has nothing to do with us the LOC has gone out of their way to makret this SWC as the African event therefore creating the perception that everything applying to Africa applies to South Africa. Don't blame overseas people for having a warped perception of south Africa, we helped to create this perception.
Mxo1/27/2010 1:59 PM

What a true kraut you had your WC and it was really well organised and was one of the best so far, why do you want to rain on our parade?. And as for ticket sales there must be something going on behind the scenes. If they say that ticket sales are slow I think it is absolute crap. I have applied for tickets in two of the previous rounds and didn't get any so now I have to wait for the next draw. Besides saying that the interest in tickets are low, they are also saying that it is especially under the white members of the population. Which is BS, things are changing in the country and in people's attitudes towards the WC. Most of the tickets sold are to white people because you either buy it online with a credit card (with web access currently only being afforadable to the middle class to wealthy, but that a total different bag of rats.), or at a FNB which is just to big a schlep going through the whole FICA-like process (having to have the whole proof of residence etc. I am fortunate that I have 24/7 access to the web, but most of my fellow neighbors and residents don't. A great thing I saw was that staunch "boere" and people that would only show a interest in rugby, it being the secular religion to most Afrikaans people, are also looking forward to the WC, with them already having tickets and applying for more. Never mind what ze Germans say. It is what we say and do. THAT is what is going to make this World Cup GREAT. Oh yeah. Uli why don't you just go ................. yourself. KE NAKO IT'S POSSIBLE

OK . We do have a high crime rate and lets not hide that. But the total number of homcides in SA is actualy lower than homocides in Atalanta USA per 100000 people. One of the big problems in SA is that people are not aware of global issues. Do some searching re the 20016 Olympic games in Chicago. Hey, what happened in Atlanta - never mind Munich. There is even one website that quotes: we'll send one of ours to the podium and we'll send one of yours to the morgue. This is in the US. This guy is a chop.

what has Angola security got to do with South Africa , the other thing is South Africans always wait the last minute to buy tickets , another point is the tickets are way to expensive for the local supporters , and one more thing , up you .you German Bastard ,
JC1/27/2010 1:53 PM
Some of these comments smacks of a total lack insight into journalism. The German guy is influential, and he shares a view on SA with MANY influential, prominent people. Many South Africans are living in a land of make-belief. You just don't have an idea of how South Africa is viewed overseas. I live and work oversees, and I would dearly love to see the WC go down well. But reality tells me that crime during the WC is going to hurt our country's imag even more. It's easy to tell people to 'stuff it' if they don't want to attend the WC. That's e very short-sighted observation. South Africa's image and future as a safe haven will stand or fall by the WC. The lack of action by the government against crime over many years is going to backfire on a massive scale - perhaps during the WC. JC

Mark1/27/2010 1:50 PM
Can't say I disagree with him. Empty Stadiums and crime victoms, here we come!!
Leo1/27/2010 1:50 PM
To all here - I think one should not refer to all Europeans (this seems to be bordering on a us and them issue again to put it mildly) - this is one persons opinion that happens to be European. AS for fears of crime in SA - go on and deny the fact that there is not one SA'n that thinks all is hunky dory down here - and if you are, I have to ask whom has paid, bribed or robbed you of your "gesonde verstand"
kevin1/27/2010 1:49 PM
South Efrica was awarded the SWC on a "Pleez Baas" basis. Not because it was the correct thing to do. Uli Hoeness has every right to express his opinion...and he may yet (will?) be proved right...building stadiums that reflect what our Engineers are capable of, does not make for a successful SWC......refusing to accept that security IS an issue in this country, & WILL be during the SWC is simply being grossly naive...
Soapbox1/27/2010 1:49 PM
It is easy for Uli Hoeness to say this in hind sight. It was not Blatter who chose SA it was FIFA. What done is done, we have to make the most of it. To all of you who are telling him to stay at home - If we don't sell tickets then we as TAXPAYERS will have to foot the bill for the Soccer stadiums you dumb asses!!!
dryston1/27/2010 1:49 PM
Dont come - Togo is no where near S.A you dumb***, you need a hiding for been so stupid.
Jeff1/27/2010 1:49 PM
Don't worry everyone, it's actually got nothing to do with crime................the shocking racket of the vuvuzelas will ensure that all the international football fans will never set foot here again!
Steve1/27/2010 1:48 PM
At last, someone with common sense.
ChrisB1/27/2010 1:48 PM
Bit of a shocker statement from him, but then again, I was never his biggest fan. It is now time to leave the security issue alone and let it play out, we'll see if we can manage to keep all the tourists secure or not in due time. However, to all the guys shouting out Nazi this and Nazi that, you are hardly any better than Hoeness, in case you are an Afrikaner, Germany has paid it's reparations to Israel and admitted guilt, they are along way ahead of you and your little apartheid "issue". If you are black and shouting Nazi, then why are you complaining, he is clearly stereotyping every black african (criminals, uselss etc), yet you do the same to germans? Pot, meet Kettle. Germany had a successful hosting of the last SWC, it's up to South Africa to put one over them now, lets argue who did it better after its done?
SEAN1/27/2010 1:48 PM
Realisticly speaking - BLATTER MADE A MISTAKE , A BIG ONE !!! Wait and see , maybe the ``big boys`` will earn a couple of extra bucks and your majority of the people will benefit NOTHING !!! Just look at ESKOM and it show you what direction we are heading in , good luck !! All you lovely positive people out there , stop fooling yourself :)
Bafanus1/27/2010 1:48 PM
The German is unforunately right. SA has a poor image overseas in the first world countries. Look at the quality of facilities and the full stands of the matches in the previous SWC in Germany, not to speak of its success. Why are ticket sales so poor for this SWC? The reasons are so obvious. Nobody wish to come here. With corruption and crime ruling the country and its leaders the SWC is bound to be a failure. Germany is a perfect first world country, whilst South Africa are sinking down further each day in the swamp of thirld world disorder, corruption, crime, etc
Raj1/27/2010 1:47 PM
I think Europe are afraid...they are afraid that the SWC will be a success....they are afraid of Africa. Their own countries are falling apart...social instability that requires draconian laws to suppress...ecoonomic woes....the Germans have always disliked Africa. This is our chance to show what we are as a united people. Lets prove Paul and Chris wrong- it's our destiny to be great.
Sipho Said So1/27/2010 1:47 PM
No NO Hornyness, this is not Ayoba!!!! Maybe ur wife is Ayoba, Send her and we'll show her a good time in South Africa!!!
Wessel1/27/2010 1:47 PM
IGNORANT TWAT!!!!!
Spartan1/27/2010 1:47 PM
This prick must be related to Juliaas, just as idi0tic. One of the worlds worst (if not the worst) sporting attacks happened IN his own country. Stay at home buddy, but please shut your trap & stop mouthing off about SA SWC, we will be just fine.
bratwurst1/27/2010 1:47 PM
olympic games, munich, 1972...........
Brian1/27/2010 1:46 PM
@Geoff - killing all those Jews wasn't all that well considered either
Werner1/27/2010 1:46 PM
Mr Hoeness obviously forgot what happened in his own city in 1972...
woody1/27/2010 1:46 PM
Herr Uli Hoeness Have you ever been to SOUTH AFRICA ? I dont think so. We will host the best SWC ever. It is amasing the pepole of littel intellect always have to put others down. I would like to advise you that we have a 12th langue in the Kruger National Park it is German even maps printed in German this is because so many of your countrymen vist this most wonderful country wher the people sought peace and not war. Soccer or football is played every young boy and many girls in Africa may be you should put your money where you mouth is and support all the orgaisations which promote Football in South Africa. als when one opens mouth one should engage brain. GOD help you
peace1/27/2010 1:46 PM
This guy is dumb and knows nothing. No one should subjected to such a lunatic and idiotic opinions like the one from this guy. I very glad that I dont share my SA with such an idiot
Jason1/27/2010 1:45 PM
Stupid Germans at it again!!!!
Nirvasha1/27/2010 1:45 PM
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT COME TO SOUTH AFRICA!!!! It is too pretty and beautiful without ugly things like you anyway. I hope you get this message. you are probably one of the people that think that there are lions and cheetahs roaming in the 'jungle" here. IDIOT! stay away... we will show you how SOUTH AFRICA hosts!!! then you will have to eat your own socks. stinky socks!!!
Kevin1/27/2010 1:44 PM
Well Mr Hoeness..what happened in 1972, not nice but the world stood by Germany, it seems your memory is a bit faded.
Iain1/27/2010 1:44 PM
Look, we don't go around issuing press releases about how silly you lot look wearing socks and sandals so why don't you stop issuing press releases about our World Cup?
S.Garatiya1/27/2010 1:43 PM
Tell this mad man to GO Hang!! Needs to know that Angola is not Capital City of South Africa.
Kwena1/27/2010 1:42 PM
you are the real Big mistake for those comments you doing. You should go and see the doctors my friend
proudly SA1/27/2010 1:42 PM
Will all of you idiots that are against SA and the world cup please email me your phone numbers so I can phone you after the world cup and laugh in your faces.
@ Charl1/27/2010 1:42 PM
Correction, we have the highest instances of violent crimes in the world, not necessarily the highest crime rates in the world. Big difference dude. RSA unlike the rest of Europe, We don’t have gang lords, terrorists roaming the streets, planning on bombing airlines and buildings, we don’t have extremists or skinheads in this country. only difference here is that an Idiot will shoot first and take your empty wallet... much safer walking streets of cape town knowing that there's no suicidal bomber ready the blown the crap out of me. FYI if you search “World Top Ten Countries with Highest Reported Crime Rates” some say Iceland. is the most unsafe country of the world, some mention Bogota, the Caribbean or what ever obscure place. Funny is that RSA is on the bottom pile. This just shows the European bigotry when it comes to our country
Leo1/27/2010 1:41 PM
The SA Gov's denial of crime within the country is self to blame for such a view. Nobody can deny that SA has become an unsafe place where terms like euro-centric, white, xenophobia and the list goes on ... is to be read on a daily basis in the SA newspapers - just recently a German tourist got robbed in a guesthouse in CT - creates a wonderful feeling of security amongst tourists - where is this non racial , safe SA that one use to read about??!!
fraud1/27/2010 1:40 PM
@Charl...YOUR MOTHER
African Man all the way1/27/2010 1:40 PM
Hey Man you don't even know the African Culture in soccer or the slogan that we use when we celebrate the goals you must watch the TV and have a taste from a distance so your brothers from Germany will tell you about african vibe when they come back.i can't say you are stupid or borring that is your problem not looking forward to be part of African History when we make one ,Shame on you Mr Whatever.
Jordan1/27/2010 1:39 PM
I can't believe the posts on this forum. He is only stating his opinion and it sounds like sour grapes to me. Whether he is an idiot or not is not for us to comment on. Rather focus on making the SWC an unforgettable event...
Moses1/27/2010 1:39 PM
Every body has a right to freedom of expression. If you can just come to South Africa before the swc, feel the atmosphere, see the people, experience divesy culture, look at the beauty of South Africa, you will never want to miss the swc. It is not as you have heard. Nice comments neh.
PT.NK1/27/2010 1:38 PM
It is clear from what you said you have problems with the world cup being hosted in Sout Africa, just be straight about it and stop involving other countries. hope you'll enjoy watching the matches infront of your television set, just do me a favour, keep searching your screen for a guy with a VUVUZELA and a South African flag, that'll propably be me.
Riaan Vermeulen1/27/2010 1:38 PM
"Hoeness told the local Muenchner Merkur daily"...the guy is an idiot. forget about him. He didnt even make he's own country's national news paper....he knows nothing. We will have the best SWC ever. Period! Btw. I 'applied' for tickets last year already...still havent heard anything. Gave my CC details everyting. Any1 else here have the same problem?
Zakes1/27/2010 1:37 PM
Excuse my language people, but if this article is true, then this moron from Germany doesn't have a clue what he is taling about. Leretiana
Chucky1/27/2010 1:36 PM
What a chop, shooting his mouth off. The Africa cup of nations seems to have been a success for the most part. I agree with some readers whocommented that after the Munich olympics , should Germany have been banned from future olympic games? If people only supported the SWC it will be a success. It will be good for the country although the impact probably wont be felt immediately.
Wazza1/27/2010 1:35 PM
Can't wait for the World Cup, Germany out in the 1st round.
KOOS BOTHA1/27/2010 1:35 PM
Due to the pathetic ticket sales to date FIFA and the LOC will again at the last minute dish out free tickets to the African masses to fill the stadiums to bull shit the world about yet another "successful" World Cup. Why must normal South Africans apply and pay for tickets if dishing out free tickets are a given. How much was Blatter paid to stage 2010 in Africa?
Annoyed1/27/2010 1:35 PM
He can stay in his F%%%% country, who told him we were expecting him....each and every country is different and has sumthing unique about it,if 4 us its crime fine,Brazil and others its crime and I bet Germany its prostitution, I am proud of my Country and all it weaknesses!I can even sing my national anthem, beat that German!ha!less snobs to worry about!!!!!!!!!!!
bok4life1/27/2010 1:32 PM
Firstly Hoeness, Togo and SOUTH africa are NOWHERE near each other you half wit arrogant clown. Secondly DONT COME to SA if you dont like it!! We dont want you here!! I am PROUDLY South African and quite confident we will host one of the BEST world cups!! Take your bitter comments and sulk from the 11th of June ato the 11th July while the rest of the world enjoy the world cup, once again, in SOUTH Africa (not togo!)
sonnyg1/27/2010 1:32 PM
Maybe the poor ticket sales can also be due to that small little hicup that the world has experieced called the recession.
DaviD Da Silva1/27/2010 1:32 PM
david@Jason McNelis.................Dumb, Dumber,Dumbest. Security entails all Crime, so Who is the IDIOT ? Visitors to SA are going to be robbed blind.Yesterday in New24 there was a tourist robbed in a Guest House. You will hear about the "goings on" during the SWC. With the Confed Cup what happened to the Egyptian team ( and as always there may have been unreported Incidents. Face facts SA is not safe.
John F1/27/2010 1:32 PM
gee and Germany has had no terrorist treats or incidents - Munich is not in Germany is it?? So do not give me that story about that incident being years ago, in a different country is not considered relevant here for this stupid German
Jane1/27/2010 1:31 PM
Also struggling to see the connection between security in South African and a shooting in Angola. It's like panicking in Cape Town because of a traffic jam in Joburg... We need to unite and show the cynics what we've got. Ke Nako!
Megakokonono1/27/2010 1:31 PM
This is a moron. I wonder the 2012 Olympics will be safe in Europe. Madrid has been hit by terrorist, London the same, US was nearly hit the past december. You tell me in this current where would you prefer to be. One thing this moron must understand is that SA is not at the mercy of Europe to survive. Whether Europeans grace our shores or not we are there to witness the football carnival first hand. And by the way Brazilians start putting in measures on your drug trade and drug wars because after the success of our African WC - these European morons will be questioning Blatter again.
Alarmist Suprememist1/27/2010 1:31 PM
Hey, better stay away from Germany, it's on the same continent as Kosovo and Bosnia! And you know how the terrorists target and attack USA.. better stay away from there! And then North and South Korea are trigger happy with each other, so we can't go near Asia. South America has the drug gangs in Mexico and abductions in Argentine and terrorists in Colombia and mudslides in Brazil. Can't go there... Not to mention the Irish Liberation Army.. can't go to UK. And let's not even start with the Middle East! Australia is constantly on burning down... I know! Let's have the SWC on the moon!
Peter1/27/2010 1:31 PM
He can stay at home. We dont want idiots coming to our country anyway.
Realman1/27/2010 1:30 PM
Does this idiot know that his country won the opportunity to host the 2006 world cup by cheating? Is he not a descendent of Hitler?
kobus1/27/2010 1:30 PM
COULD NOT AGREE WITH THIS BLOKE MORE. RECKON THEIR IS GONNA BE A LOT OF SHIT HAPPENING HERE DURING THAT TIME. SORRY OOPS, IT IS ALREADY HAPPENING DAILY WITH THE 50 MURDERS PER DAY, RAPES, HIJACKINGS ETC ETC.
Al1/27/2010 1:29 PM
Ach no man - another illiterate European soccer hooligan turned "management". If he had spent more time in school perhaps he would have learnt that geologically there is a huge seperation between Angola and SA, and even larger between Kabinda and SA.
RZ1/27/2010 1:29 PM
Blatter HAD to give SWC to South Africa because he is going to get a HUGE PAYOLA !!
ham1/27/2010 1:29 PM
Shouldn't have had the last swc in Germany....because a few people were shot and killed in Israel. Why even bother quoting people like this? it just pisses us off.
piet1/27/2010 1:28 PM
I think the only clear mistake is Uli Hoeness being born and wasting our precious oxygen. Who cares what a crap German manager thinks anyway.
Thabani1/27/2010 1:28 PM
Minus one "druggie" from Europe. How I wish GERMANY can host again this year.....possible???? Impossible....????
Mzobe1/27/2010 1:28 PM
This is 1 confused man! I agree with McNelis above. Would this man have raised his point if the "Angola shooting" didnt happen?? People must stop undermining South Africa and the African continent as a whole!
Aki1/27/2010 1:28 PM
South Africa is not Africa, but is in Africa. What happens in the UK doesn't necessarily mean will happen elsewhere in Europe. The Europeans must admit it that they are spoiled, they are used to have everything around them. The fact is soccer is a global game, they should be prepared to travel down South - we travelled up North to support France and Germany and now it is their turn to do the same.
joseph1/27/2010 1:28 PM
This guy think that soccer is played only in Europe. If security is not a problem in Germany why thaey are having security companies and police wo/men. Every one has his choice. It is your choice to come here or not.
m0071/27/2010 1:28 PM
He probably does not even know where S.A is on the map, but the Germans are always better, agree on the idiot statement!!
Chris1/27/2010 1:28 PM
At last some people are seeing things for what they really are ... in any case, SA only got the WC because of African countries threatening to boycott (as usual) the event ( as if it would have made any difference to the event) - just hope more people stay away so that Jordaan and kie can be exposed for their real abilities to host something the size of the WC
Chad1/27/2010 1:27 PM
Maybe if you make an attempt to travel out of Europe and open your f#% eyes, you will learn Angola is NOT South Africa dimwit!! It is like us Africans saying we will not travel to Germany because of the weather in the UK twot!! Wake up...its the WORLD CUP, not a European Championship!!
m0071/27/2010 1:27 PM
He probably does not even know where S.A is on the map, but the Germans are always better, agree on the idiot statement!!
Heinster1/27/2010 1:27 PM
The guy is telling it like it is - I'm sure Mr Blatter is second guessing himself with all the sh1t still happening here - the SA government can't guarantee anyone's safety during the World Cup - they are expecting E TV to do their work for them. Someone needs to tell them that results don't just happen - you actually need to make an effort - lets not even talk about how prices for everything just quadrupled - Just shows the shortsightedness, greed and stupidity of our people that is why my family and I will watch all the games in the privacy of my home - So that I can drink and braai everyday without being worried about getting locked up by a policeman that thinks he's HE-MAN and needs to prove himself - BUT THIS IS THE MY REALITY PEOPLE
BrianJ1/27/2010 1:26 PM
Oh no, were're going to miss him, frigging idiot! So if there's a bomb blast in, lets say Spain, don't go to Germany as they're both in Europe....duh!
John F1/27/2010 1:25 PM
gee and Germany has had no terrorist treats or incidents - Munich is not in Germany is it?? So do not give me that story about that incident being years ago, in a different country is not considered relevant here for this stupid German
JohanP1/27/2010 1:25 PM
Angola?....Look at the violent crime in South Africa ! Teen, aged 10 raped and hanged....... WTF that was just this morning !!! Now, suddenly, the cops want to arrest people stating that they want to rob and kill visitors... What a Joke !!! The crimninals are waiting for the flood gates to open. This SWC will do our International reputation more damage than good... Why are people in denial to hat is happening on the ground? New Zealand want their own protection, the world wants it's own protection, from what? the peaceloving South African Inhabitant? you answer that question for yourself
GIVEN1/27/2010 1:25 PM
He's really an idiot ARE THE AFRICAN PLAYERS PLAYING FOR THE TEAM HE COACHES.I DON'T THINK SO BECAUSE HE COULD SEE HOW AFRICANS CANPLAY A LOVELY SOCCER.SAFA MUST MAKE SURE HE DOESN'T COME TO S.A. IN JUNE TO WATCH THE SWC.HE SHOULD RATHER STAY BEHIND AND LESSON IT ON THE RADIO.
AC1/27/2010 1:24 PM
If you don't want to come to SA, then don't. Angola has nothing to do with SA. Do you really think that SA has not done their homework regarding security? Besides didn't gunmen kill an entire Olympics Jewish team in Munich? Doesn't the US have the best security in the world? Yet ... a gunman still got onto their plane. The World Cup is so much more than just football, its about the friendships made and help building a nation, but clearly the latter is not what you're interested in.
Lili1/27/2010 1:24 PM
What a doos.
Darren D1/27/2010 1:24 PM
F$%^ing muppet!!! Don't come to South Africa then...Who cares....Not like Germany are going to get very far anyway!
h1/27/2010 1:23 PM
Look, I am sorry that the foreigners aren't buying as many tickets as the organisers might have hoped, but really it's like foreigners come first with everything in SA right now. Not only did I "apply" for tickets some months ago and still waiting for response, but only verbal threats to foreigners security is taken seriously by the police. Actual attacks on locals could not get such a reaction from the police as the Etv drama did. So we are not deserving of tickets or life?
GLADSTONE1/27/2010 1:23 PM
There are people who still undermines Africa. It is difficult to change their thinking. The only thing we have to do as South Africans is to host a successful world cup to prove them wrong.
Paul1/27/2010 1:23 PM
Couldnt agree with this guy more........SA isnt ready for a SWC......our government of Criminals and its supporters are still stuck in their Culture......which is one of robbing raping stealing and just general lawlessness.....so let them come and they will become stats.......
Leon1/27/2010 1:23 PM
Ha, ha, ha, hie , hie, hie, and only now they discover it. South Afica cannot afford it, but FIFA makes a fantastic financial package out of it. They cannodled South Africa out of a lot of money and the locals don't make asingle cent. Why complain. You get filthy rich out of it, Mr Blatter.
Big G1/27/2010 1:22 PM
Somewhere in Europe there are security issues the same distance as Angola is from South Africa when these any sporting events are on the go.It stands to reson then that if Angolan security issues affect what happens in South Africa there should be no sporting events taking place anywhere in Europe. I can carry on with this topic but it simply is not worth the time and effort. Perhaps the Germans are envious that we are ready for our world cup long before they were, and it has become a pill they just cannot swallow.
Anonymous1/27/2010 1:22 PM
The fool doesnt have a clue about geography. The idiot probably thinks Africa is a country. No-one i begging to come, stay in Germany my friend!!
Carl1/27/2010 1:22 PM
Was'nt the Movie called Munich?
Brett1/27/2010 1:22 PM
Please don't come. We don't want you here anyway!!
David Bossenger1/27/2010 1:21 PM
Once again an opinion from a Eurocentric point of view. The poor man probably doesn't realise that Paris is far closer to Munich than Cabinda to SA. To use his reasoning he doesn't sleep at night when there are riots in Paris. Perhaps he doesn't sleep at all because of soccer hooliganism in the UK. It's time he grew up and smelt the Fynbos!
Johann1/27/2010 1:20 PM
I am with Jason, I mean WTF. Sure we have crime problems, but with the number of successful events staged in the country, they couldnt had picked a better country! Besides the only issue during the Con Fed Cup was when the Egyptian team went and got Hookers!! LOL own fault. Ask Tiger!! LOL I reckon the SWC will be a massive success and those not part of it will regret it.
maj1/27/2010 1:20 PM
its clear that Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness is not a very wise man. that is clear when you look at all the coaches they have appointed to the club and realised afterwards that it didnt work...and now like the rest of the other dumb CU@#NTS they refer to Africa as a country.
alex1/27/2010 1:19 PM
Don't judge S.A. based on what happened in angola. why don't u look at some of the big tournaments we hosted here in S.A. Oh may b Germany is 100% safe he!
Javas1/27/2010 1:19 PM
He does not know what he is talking about.
Kenneth Loncey1/27/2010 1:19 PM
Who cares if he travels to SA or not. As long as the German National Team is here. We are South Africa and NOT Angola. There is a distance between us
Xolani 1/27/2010 1:19 PM
Please Munich don't talk 2much you don't know anything about SA no one asked u to come to SA u full of jelous
LC1/27/2010 1:19 PM
We would like to think that Angola must be worse than SA, but we are wrong! Safety is a very real concern at the World Cup and people need to ask these questions. The World Cup will be a success, no doubt, but there are going to be tourists who are going to get a rude awakening. This is not Europe!
Clint 1/27/2010 1:18 PM
What a douch bag!
SWC Supporter1/27/2010 1:18 PM
Good, we dont want the Germans here anyway, infact, I dont think any country wants them!!!!!!!!
Sarah Palin1/27/2010 1:18 PM
Thats cause Africa is a county..to this guy along with Sarah Palin
lood 1/27/2010 1:18 PM
wonder how he will feel if germany wins the world cup in South Africa. You guys think think his opinion will change to what a brilliant world cup it was in South Africa?
Syd1/27/2010 1:18 PM
As someone who lives with the people of South Africa who go and watch Bafana matches. I can tell you now that the feeling is that, "Why should one apply for a ticket and with no guarantee of getting?". I tend to agree because South Africans have bought tickets for many years and now because the LOC needs to accomodate Europe, they opted for the Application process. This was a problem and over the counter is more practical way forward. As for this mampara, we have proven it over and over with the hosting of Rugby WC, Cricket WC, ICC Championships, IPL etc. This is one thing that we shouldn't accept. We need to be proud of what we have done and let morons be morons
nobody1/27/2010 1:18 PM
Why even post an article like this, it is non factual and is mearly an opinion. I'm of the opinion all germans are arrogant a*****, but that doesn't make headlines.....what a bunch of crap
SHJ1/27/2010 1:17 PM
This coming from a guy who probably experienced the Munich Massacre at the 1972 Olympics...... What an idiot. As for the rest of the article, what does the Togo attack have to do with anything in South Africa? I am not saying that we do not have a crime problem but hell this is ridiculous! That’s like saying I don’t feel save in Germany because some guy got shot dead in Russia. It’s a pity about the ticket sales. It is expected though when you have a system in place by which you can only buy tickets using a credit card. 90% of the South African population don’t even have a credit card. I still think the WC is going to be awesome!!!
Amazed1/27/2010 1:17 PM
...should we have banned The Olympics in Europe after Munich, you idiot?
Rampage1/27/2010 1:16 PM
WOW what a statement to make!!!! Yes security is a issuse but as South African we are working hard to help SAP do there job and the work rate has improved from the SAP. If he doesn't want to come and see the greatest SWC then it's his loss. It is funny every year we see large groups of German and English tourist coming to our shores I havn't heard of any problems. One more thing Angola is not a province in South Africa, Angola is a country with it's own issues to group us with them is stupid. From a Proud South African
Melly1/27/2010 1:16 PM
I am sick and tired of this european fools who always think that they know what's best for Africa. They just can't imagine Africa standing on her own. We will host this World Cup and there is absolutely nothing that this bitter old Fool will do about it. He better stay in Germany counting the number of people who died under the leadership of Adolf Hittler. F*** Him. I am out.
Farouk1/27/2010 1:16 PM
Let him study the map of Africa, he obviously has no idea that SA is not the only country in the continent. South Africa is in the south of the continent you t***....
lesego1/27/2010 1:16 PM
Hey you Hoeness or whoever who the hell do you think you are? Hav u done ur geography at schoo?, Do you know AFRICA? and again do u know Southern Part of Africa? Do you know SOUTH AFRICA? It seems u a so ignorant. We won't even notice if u a in South Africa or not,so it will be best if don't put ur stinking foot in our mother continent.U A SO NEGATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BBB1/27/2010 1:15 PM
I agree, they have a wrong image of us.
buz1/27/2010 1:15 PM
Mr. Hoeness: As a South African with German roots there is only one thing I can say: You have proven yourself over and over again to be an idiot . It is best if you do not come to SA. We will not miss you over here at all !!!
CTheB1/27/2010 1:15 PM
Aaah, yes, because there's never been crime related to any other international competition anywhere other than the African continent. Yes, crime in SA is bad, but this guys a dumb***.
Genevieve1/27/2010 1:15 PM
i actually agree that SA is way too unsafe for something like this. Yeah its an opportunity of growth, etc. for us here in SA and it means a lot BUT we do not have complete control over our criminals. There are A LOT of people here who will do ANYTHING for some money - even kill. Its crazy here and we can definately not guarantee that a 100% of people attending the world cup will go unharmed. SAD BUT TRUE. We will just have to wait and see what happens, unfortunately.
ProudlySA1/27/2010 1:15 PM
Up yours A hole.
Ish1/27/2010 1:14 PM
see, these are the people who should just shut-up. no body needs their opinion! Blatter did a good thing! crime is every where...ticket sale are not necessarily a problem, it is the economy! Maybe this burger must come here and i will mug him personally before he even leaves the airport!
sido1/27/2010 1:14 PM
does this idiot know where south africa is and where angola is? he is a total moron
Will1/27/2010 1:14 PM
what people will say. There will be a massive fan base and like all the other world events we have held...it will be safe and uneventfull. The police will have their budget doubled and the tourists will be safe. However once the world cup is over, it will be business a usual..and crime will return. Cynical but true
Mr Controversy1/27/2010 1:14 PM
Totally agree Jason McNelis!!! This guy is a bumbbling fool!!! Show me one country on earth where security is not an issue!!! He forgets very quickly about the skin heads in Germany who warned non white people to stay away from their suburbs during the last world cup. What gives him the right to make such statements. Does he live in SA or has he visited SA. He can stay in Germany and will probably be a victim of crime in his own country while the SWC runs smoothly in SA.
C Sacke1/27/2010 1:14 PM
A gunman went on another rampage in Iceland. I think the Olympics should be taken away from London. Same logig, both moronic
@Jason1/27/2010 1:14 PM
wait for June / July then you'll see he was not such an idiot after all
Sasha1/27/2010 1:13 PM
Not sure why they're worried about Angola's issues - should be worried about 50 murders a day instead...
Carl 1/27/2010 1:13 PM
Wish the germans could just shut up. We going to have a awesome world cup..
Amos Lence1/27/2010 1:13 PM
Stay away whoever you are - The world cup is much better off without you...
Will1/27/2010 1:13 PM

S-F1/27/2010 1:12 PM
I agree with him. We should not have received it. I still hope its a flop.
George Gildenhuys1/27/2010 1:12 PM
WTF?!! Angola is not the same as South Africa. This is like complaining about security in Serbia when the World Cup was held in Germany, completely unrelated. Bloody moron!
Chad1/27/2010 1:12 PM
that d*** probably doesnt even know where Angola is in relation to South Africa....
Rhodri Theaker1/27/2010 1:12 PM
So any security concerns in Russian wil have an affect in Germany. Is this what this guy is saying ?
Timeshare1/27/2010 1:11 PM
Thick Europeans. To them Africa is Africa...
Charl1/27/2010 1:11 PM
In a way I agree with him. On merit - Africa would never be preferred above European, Asian, Australian or North American counterparts. It was an emotional decision, no doubt. We have the facilities, definitely, we have the infrastructure, definitely, but we have one of the highest crime rates in the world - definitely. Until the government does not stop their soft ass approach on criminals and get rid of all their corrupt cronies wasting our tax money - no single person will ever be safe in South Africa. Thats the blunt truth. More so - the blacks in this country must sort themselves out once and for all - they are committing the vast vast majority of murders and rape in this country. Deal with it naysayers.
Geoff1/27/2010 1:10 PM
WTF? Where does this dud get off sptouting such nonsense? Is he not satisfied that Germant stole the last World Cup from us by bribing a dodery old Kiwi for his vote? Why is the rest of the world so hell-bent on stopping Africa's development in its tracks? Herr Hoeness, Germany's 'biggest wrong decision' was to invade Poland!
Rob1/27/2010 1:10 PM
Dude how does Angola have anything to do with SA? Its a few 1000km away. Germans are so naive.
Proudly South African1/27/2010 1:09 PM
Lets look on the bright side, at least there will be one less idiot coming here for the world cup.
Mfanomncane1/27/2010 1:08 PM
Who da f*** does this Uli Hoeness(whatever horny you are) do you think you are? This is very disrespectful and Mr Blatter needs to come out and make a statement against these coaches in Europe issuing statements like this and discouraging people from attanding the WC. Just like other Europeans this small piece of k** thinks Africa is a country and he atters his drivel. He might be a supremo to others but to some of us he's another club owner just like others who words won't dampen the high spirits of the world cup, viva RSA,viva the rest of the world that supports us.To those small South Africans who echo the same sentiments just remember we don't need your support along with Uli's,FOR ONE PESSIMIST THERE ARE 1000 OPTIMISTS ABOUT THE SWC,VIVA MZANSI.
@News24 editor1/27/2010 1:07 PM
Please stop fueling the fire by continuing to post these articals.why only print negative stories is it because of the number of coments and the people loging on to your website?.
Lopez1/27/2010 1:07 PM
For all I care you can go to the nearest Hell. You were not invited anyways. stay home and never set foot to any African country.
Hoeness se m@er1/27/2010 1:04 PM

Jason Mc Nelis1/27/2010 1:02 PM
