Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana players will be paid their match fees for the international friendly game against Zimbabwe, which was played in Durban on January 27, on Monday, the SA Football Association (SAFA) said on Sunday.
SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani and his chief executive officer Leslie Sedibe assured SAPA that the players will be paid on Monday morning.
Their assurance followed a report in the City Press that the players had not been paid.
Nematandani confirmed that payment had not been made but refused to point fingers.
"I have just spoken to our financial director and the payments which are done electronically can only be made on a week day and unfortunately the bank is unable to make payments electronically on a Sunday."
"But rest assured the money has been loaded at the bank and the players will receive all the money due to them for the Zimbabwe match first thing on Monday morning," he said.
Sedibe accepted responsibility for the delay and promised that the oversight would not happen again during his tenure and that the new SAFA administration under his leadership was determined to clean up their act.
Asked what caused the delay, he said: "I do not know what happened in the past with the previous SAFA administration [or] about how long players waited for their money."
"In future players will be paid 48 hours after a match. It is not fair that players must wait. It is embarrassing for this sort of thing to come out in the media 100 days or so before we host the 2010 World Cup finals," Sedibe said.
