Johannesburg - SAFA CEO Leslie Sedibe admits he is worried about the lack of South African ticket sales ahead of the World Cup.
Local Organising Committee head Danny Jordaan revealed recently that fewer than 100 000 tickets have been sold to fans in the six African countries competing in the finals and expressed his disappointment at the fact that few local fans are buying tickets for Bafana Bafana's Group A matches against Mexico, Uruguay and France.
Sedibe is just as worried and urged the nation to purchase tickets for the showpiece as soon as possible.
"We need to create the vibe around the World Cup," he said.
"I think the problem could be that South Africans are not accustomed to the application process that is in place. But our people need to rally behind Bafana by buying the tickets now. We are encouraging people to go buy the tickets. We are also meeting with FIFA before the end of this month to discuss this.
"The other key challenge is the availability of tickets for Bafana's games. It will be sad to see South Africans end up supporting other teams (because they didn't get tickets for Bafana matches), but we are going to sit down with FIFA to discuss it."
