'Pitso is the right choice'

Bafana Bafana stopper Shu-Aib Walters has praised the appointment of Pitso Mosimane as the new boss of the national team.

Mosimane, who has served as Bafana Bafana assistant coach since 2007, was officially unveiled as Carlos Alberto Parreira's successor on Thursday afternoon.

Walters believes SAFA have made the correct choice in opting for the former SuperSport United coach and feels that continuity will lay the foundation for future success.

"It wasn't a a difficult decision I think," he exclusively told Football365.co.za.

"I don't think anyone else had a better chance of getting the job and I believe Jairo Leal will be staying as his assistant, so things won't change that much from Parreira.

"Pitso and Jairo have been doing a lot of work over the past few months and I believe they should try and keep the core.

"Drastic changes shouldn't be made. If you look at the Bafana team now, we have moved up fifteen rankings and now if they can just keep the core and build on from that squad that was in the soccer World Cup.

"If you look at the likes of Matthew Booth, MacBeth Sibaya and Siyabonga Nomvete, they are over 32, the coaches can start to bring in younger players and make changes like that."

The 28-year-old recently joined Premier Soccer League outfit Maritzburg United on a three-year deal and he revealed his reasoning for the switch from Bloemfontein Celtic.

"I'm happy, there is a better chance of me being the number one here and getting regular game time," he added.

"Coming from being part of the Bafana team I have improved quite a lot and I needed to start this season.

"Whereas obviously with Celtic, Patrick Tigneymb got player of the year last season, he put in a number of good performances last season, got a few man of the matches. So, it would of been kind of hard for me to start there this season.

"You have to respect when other people are doing well and look for greener pastures elsewhere," he concluded.
