Parreira: This was a good test

2010-04-23 09:50

Johannesburg - Carlos Alberto Parreira was not dismayed by Bafana Bafana's goalless draw against North Korea, which he believes helped his side find their rhythm.

The Brazilian watched his charges struggle to break down the Asian side, who will also enter the World Cup as underdogs in June.

Katlego Mphela had the best chances in the game, but goalkeeper Ri Myung Guk was on hand to keep North Korea on level terms.

Despite the stalemate, Parreira was pleased with the friendly.

"This was a good test as it is crucial that my players face teams who have qualified for the World Cup. We need games like this to develop our rhythm," he said.

"It was our first international since the end of March and North Korea were difficult opponents who played very defensively. We created some chances, but did not take them."

Meanwhile, SAFA CEO Leslie Sedibe revealed that the body will ask Parreira his thoughts on bolstering football in the country after the World Cup.

The Brazilian is set to hand over the reins to a local-born coach following the global showpiece.

"We are very happy with Carlos Alberto Parreira and will listen to him about what he expects from the future," Sedibe said.

"But the position of our association is that it is best for the development of football in our country to have a local coach."

Gavin Hunt, Gordon Igesund and Pitso Mosimane are understood to be the favourites to take over from Parreira.
