Cape Town - Morne du Plessis, chairperson of SAIL STADEFRANCE, the operators of the Cape Town Stadium and the Green Point Park Precinct, has unveiled the new Cape Town Stadium logo.

"Our challenge was to create a logo that fulfilled certain requirements.

"The logo had to be one that didn’t suggest the venue is merely a stadium for sporting events but also one that caters for all kinds of gatherings, including music concerts and gospel shows.

"Its design had to be modern yet timeless so that it would not date. To achieve this, the logo had to be a strong symbol – instantly synonymous with the stadium and a reflection of Cape Town.

"The logo also had to complement the subsidiary logos of the stadium’s extensions such as Green Point Park and other facilities that are to follow.

"We looked at the features around the stadium – the mountain, the sea, the lush flora and others, but we realised that the most defining feature of the stadium wasn’t what was around it, but the actual shape of the structure itself.

This allowed us to develop a strong timeless symbol that’s both modern and unique. The design works on its own and with the subsidiary logos of the existing stadium facility extensions and those still to be developed.

Green was the chosen colour as it is rich and fruitful and is reminiscent of our beautiful city’s landscape and the stadium’s lush playing field. It also pays homage to the location of the stadium - Green Point.
