More SWC tickets on sale

Johannesburg - More tickets for the football World Cup in South Africa went on sale Tuesday - with a little over four months to go to kick-off on June 11.

Around one-third of the around 3 million tickets available for the tournament are still up for grabs following three rounds of ticket sales since last year.

More than 400 000 tickets are on offer in this fourth of five phases, which begins at midday Central European Time and runs until April 7 on a first-come, first-served basis.

World Cup organising body FIFA appears anxious to boost sales to South Africans and Africans, to ensure the first Cup on the African continent has a strong African participation.

The cheapest category four tickets, which begin at 20 dollars US, have been reserved for South African residents.  The cheapest tickets for other spectators, including fans from the rest of Africa, are four times that.

So far, of the 1.232 000 tickets sold publicly (a figure that excludes tickets sold through tour operators, football federations, etc), South Africans have bought 797 990.

While no single figure is available from FIFA for sales in the rest of Africa, which accounts for six of the 32 World Cup teams, sales figures for individual African countries show take-up has been sluggish.

Tickets are available over the internet at www.fifa.com or in First National Bank branches for South African residents.

I applied for 3 sets of tickets (Cat 3) in the 2nd phase and waited in anticipation as 2 sets were authorised TWICE against my credit card on 3rd and 4th Feb. Guess what? No SMS, no tickets. Now what gives them the right to authorise tickets against my card and then I don't even get any?! It's a con.
wayne2/14/2010 9:53 PM
well I waited for the draw to see which games I wanted to attend .. I applied for 5 pairs of tickets for my wife and I. the draw came and went by the 8 Feb I still had no notification, the website still had my tickets as Pending so because I cannot afford more than what I applied for I could not apply for the 3rd round tickets due to the pending status of round 2. after chasing and begging I was finally notified on the 11 Feb (my birthday) that all my applications were unsuccesful. a bit dissapointed and 2 days disadvantaged in stage 3 but still positive. I hear Rich Mkondo on a radio interviewing stating that stage 3 sales phase is on a first come first serve basis and that if you apply and the tickets are available then they will be allocated to you. I logon and jeepers most of the games are gone the category upgrade prices are hugely inflated. any way I see 2 pairs of tickets available that I want (can't afford more) I apply......... and............. it is the 14 Feb and still have a status pending. this is ridiculous how long does it take for the system to work out whether a ticket is available or not.......UNLESS either Rich Mkondo does not know what the hell is going on or he lied. either way I have had a long hard think and I am now completely disillusioned with the people running this farce and I do not want to be around another stadium disaster.... so how do I cancel my pending application. first come first serve my what a load of cr*p.
Eben2/12/2010 9:43 AM
Now whatis wrong with going to a ticket office --- or on the Internet and just buying the tickets you want? Paid. Done. This whole system is ridiculous.

I'm SO EXCITED for the Soccer World Cup!!!! I was lucky enough to be in Long Street, Cape Town during the draw and the vibe was INCREDIBLE!!!! EVERYONE was in such a good mood and wanted nothing more than to host a fantastic and sucessful World Cup. The last time I have felt that kind of a positive vibe was during the 1995 Rugby World Cup when Madiba walked onto the field! Even though I was only a child back then, I knew that that event was very significant. I hope that this event will help to bring South Africans from all walks back together again because, judging by the words of some people's comments above, it would seem that a great divide has opened up again.
Off to the games!2/11/2010 1:27 PM
btw my tip, for what it's worth: apply for Cat 3 tickets or up if you can afford it, leaving some room to get bumped down to a lower category if tickets in your chosen category are oversubscribed, as most Cat 4 tickets are.

First time I applied (1st sales phase) at an FNB branch my application was partially-successful. Second time around (3rd sales phase) I applied online on FIFA's website with the same result. I now have a total of 26 tickets for 8 matches in both JNB and CPT and I'm super-excited!! The vibe around this tournament will be something to cherish for decades to come
Cas@PD2/11/2010 11:44 AM
phone the FNB branch where you applied and let them sort it out.I was informed today that they have a problem at the FIFA ticketing office, which is causing the delay in notifying people.I think they just passing the buck, but I will be able to get my money back today. What KAK about this is that FIFA and/or the LOC is quite about this.
@PD2/11/2010 10:50 AM
When I called the same number , The guys at that office could not located my aplication. After giving them all my details, it took them about 30minutes to tell me that my aplication was unsucessfull.Whats funny was that before the said I was unsesfull was .What really pissed me off is that my money is still locked because the system still shows that the application is pending.
Marlene Naicker2/10/2010 4:28 PM
I will be at the at the opening, the SA/Uruguay and the SA/France games. I have nothing else to say - yeah - that's how smug how I am.
PD2/10/2010 12:04 PM
Please could someone give me details on how I can go about laying an official complaint against the FIFA Ticketing or the LOC. Its the 10th of Feb, I have still not received a sms yet and when I call 0831232010 it says my application is still pending.THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SORTED BY THE 8th! I called 0118857290 (Fifa Ticketing) and some guy mentioned to me that most of the manual applications did not go through and that its better to apply online. I'm not complaining about not getting tickets, however it would be great to know if I was successful SO I CAN APPLY FOR THE NEXT PHASE! This is really useless of FIFA. Maybe News24 can do an article about it? Help...Someone...Anyone?

Dictionary2/10/2010 3:15 AM
To Darren Burke 2:42pm - Football OR Soccer? Definition of FOOTBALL : any of various games played with a round or oval ball and usually based on two teams competing to kick, head, carry, or otherwise propel the ball into each other's goal, territory, etc. See association football, rugby, Australian Rules, American football, Gaelic football etc. Definition of SOCCER : a game in which two teams of eleven players try to kick or head a ball into their opponent's goal, only the goalkeeper on either side being allowed to touch the ball with his hands and arms except in the case of throw-ins. Can use either!
Sal Durbs2/9/2010 9:03 PM
Lots of people are complaining about not receiving tickets - the learn is book early. I received tickets for 6 of 7matches in Durban (excluding the semis) in the 1st phase. Since then also received both qtr finals in JHB. To those who were successful, welcome to SA and enjoy the games and hospitality.
Highlander2/9/2010 4:19 PM
@Portuguese - don't bad mouth the world cup, maybe if you woke up and applied for the games based on ticket availability you would have got tickets. I got tickets for Portugal v Cote d'Ivoire in PE, category 4, during this last phase of sales (phase3). If you apply correctly, tickets are still available. Use your common sense!
Proud Porra2/9/2010 4:19 PM
@ POrtuguese...You still have another 2 chances at getting tickets, there are still tickets for Portugal vs Korea and Portugal vs Ivory Coast. Don't be soooo negative and aggressive. Cresce e tenta novamente!!
Sev Blatter2/9/2010 4:06 PM
Portugal vs Brazil was sold out in the 1st week of launching tickets, so dont even bother trying to go to this game? the whole set up is such bullshit, FIFA have an agenda and thats to milk it to the limit, garanteed that you wont see a single RSA citsen at that game...
Jerome2/9/2010 4:05 PM
i've applied for 5 games (about 3 months ago) and got none. my friends applied in January and got tickets for the same games which i've applied for. This system is useless.
@steve2/9/2010 3:45 PM
steve, moron, why do you even bother commenting if you so tired of swc? just shows how stupid, jack**s you are,so pleeeeeeease stop commenting and give others a space to comment
Sipho Phakathi2/9/2010 3:42 PM
I am disappointed with this random selection of tickets. Everytime I applied my application is unsuccesful.
Fangos2/9/2010 3:37 PM
Eish, yaah neeh!! 2 many high-tempers out there. it's only football guys. lets not kill one another now. we can't all go 2 the stadium. some will gets tickets some won't. either way SA is the place 2 b in june/july. let the games begin.......
@Just askin2/9/2010 3:29 PM
It beats me to why tickets which was available in the previous phase is available again in this phase. I would understand if it was tickets which were given to participating countries and they failed to sell all they tickets. Plus what’s even worse is the fact that allot of people have not been notified of whether the applications were successful or not. I wanted to get my money back today but FNB told me I will only be able to get my money back on Friday. They are gaining interest on my money which is being kept by them.
Fan2/9/2010 3:21 PM
again guys RANDOM SELECTION DRAW!!! gosh if u lucky u lucky..we applied for 2 high profile games at 4 tickets each and got them all...fifa is not involved in some conspiracy to keep you from getting your tickets..its like putting all the tens of thousands of names in a hat and then picking a certain number out..really what are the chances that your particular name gets drawn..its just the luck of the draw...not the best way to sell the tickets i will agree, but better ways are available now in the 4th ad 5th phases... and bringing race into this is absolutly pathetic!
POrtuguese2/9/2010 3:02 PM
I am portuguese south african got no tickets to watch portugal or south africa, so f#ck the world cup
ex-SWC 2/9/2010 2:53 PM
that is it for tickets now, constant applying, constant rejections. I now feel like i am begging for Tickets. Thank you DSTV
Steve2/9/2010 2:44 PM
F*** the SWC. I'm so sick and tired of hearing of this crap
Darren Burke @ Siviwe2/9/2010 2:42 PM
your just an idiot, i play and support football (just for calling it soccer you should be banned). most white people do support football, maybe not local PSL (even th i am chiefs fan) because it isnt very good standard of football. but white people do, they just support better league like the premiership and la liga. if you knew anything about football and if you play it (not just for a kick about) but for club you will see loads of whites playing.
Volla2/9/2010 2:37 PM
@Siviwe. The reason why "white people" as you put it don't support soccer in SA is because the quality of soccer locally is absolute garbage!!! So obviously when "white people" get the opportunity to watch top class football played by top class footballers they will buy tickets to watch it. So take your vuvuzela and your BEE manner and stick it where the sun don't shine you muppet!
Nick@siviwe2/9/2010 2:26 PM
Oh dear, poor siviwe. Still living in the dark ages are we? If you haven't anything to say on the topic then rather not post. Apparently the administrators have had a tough time supporting football too! Save your uneducated bile for the black management forum! Roll on the Proteas.....
CW2/9/2010 2:17 PM
Ha ha, all those people who got rejected probably did not have money in their accounts. Poor sods
@Siviwe2/9/2010 2:15 PM
what a stupid comment - I'm sure u work for LOC, why did u have to bring in the race card typical person breaking the good work all of us as South Africans have done over the last 20 yrs. IDIOT keep ur racial comments to urself
@ El Nino - Mike garz2/9/2010 2:11 PM
which games did u get for - cos i booked for all 7 @ 4 persons per game so u r a lucky one in a million i guess. drop me a mail and we can discuss which games u don't want to go to and i might just be a taker. cos i sure as hell aint gonna be applying again
Siviwe2/9/2010 1:58 PM
I hope all the white poeple don't get tickets - they never support soccer when it is not the World Cup. Why should they get first preference now. The tickets should rolled out in BEE manner.
very confused2/9/2010 1:49 PM
i applied for 4 games in the previous phase and got zero tickets. i know its a random draw, but eish, its unfair that some people get 7/7 requests and others get none. i mean we all would like to go the games! so i've applied again in this round, but there are no cheap seats available anymore for the games in CT, so i've had to put down the yuppy seats in the hope that it'll bring me better luck...lets hope my bank account will be able to cover it!
El Nino2/9/2010 1:38 PM
I understand it's a random draw, I applied for "7 games 4 tickets each". I got all of them. Ouch!!!!I R15k smack to the credit card. I must be one hell of a lucky guy except that I am now sleeping outside with the dog. Tickets anyone?
IDIOTS2/9/2010 1:38 PM
My name is not African, I am not an International Tourist, I have applied in all three rounds, even willing to pay for the most expensive category 1 tickets, yet have been unable to secure a seat, even for a game that will see an empty stadium, guaranteed. You think I'm going to waste any mor time applying again? Not likely! I am a proud South African working overseas, had booked flights to travel "home" over the world cup and had the hopes of my twin 7 year old sons (who are soccer crazy) dashed by idiots. Changed my flight reservations this morning - heading for Europe (even got a refund from the travel agent as the flights, hotels and car rental costs less than the original flights booked home to SA in June). Have fun SA - I'll watch the games I want to watch without having to worry if my cars still in the parking I left it in, whether my camera is going to be the possession of some affirmative shopper, or whether I should wear a wooly jacket and gloves to brave the wintery weather. Have fun, I'm going to. IDOTS
CW2/9/2010 1:28 PM
the people complaining must have gone for the most popular games - and probably games where England or one of the other 1st world countries which can afford to travel to SA. So far me, all my friends and family has got each ticket that we booked. Eish, I am so looking forward to it. Just this weekend had the great rugby festival at the new Cape Town stadium. Things went really smoothly.
kaka2/9/2010 12:57 PM
I habve been declined again this is the third time and yet there are so many tickects available what must i do to get the tickets because this is annoying
Thapelo@Mike Garz2/9/2010 12:56 PM
Man, I couldn't have said it better myself. FIFA and LOC are the biggest criminals in the world, hence soccer in general is the biggest form of organised crime. These idiots realised there's more money to be made then they decided to sell the tickets to the foreigners paying in pounds/euros. Cat 4 ticket is sold at four times what us S Africans were promised to pay. So for them is making more money and for me and you is the middle finger, they are basically saying: Go fuck yourself!!
Fan2/9/2010 12:52 PM
my fam got our tickets but also missed out on one if the matches..but guys its a random draw..think of it like the lotto- its just a case of luck..try again in this phase as its a first come first serve so u have a better chance.. as for south africans not supporting, well i dont agree with that..but at least they have relooked their ticketing process etc to make things a lot easier
@ Methinks2/9/2010 12:50 PM
I read 280000 of the 400000 released now are category 4, so you might stand a better chance in this phase if the games you want are not sold out.
@ Anxious2/9/2010 12:48 PM
are you sure you were unsuccessful? I'd be surprised if none of your applications for African teams were successful as I don't think those games are that popular. Sometimes they fail to send notification SMS even though you were successful. I had this in first round. When I dialed the help number (0831232010), I heard my application was successful, even though I never got SMS as promised.
Methinks2/9/2010 12:43 PM
Me thinks that there has been an oversubsruption for the Cat D tickets, thus many ppl have not received tickets. The majority of the 400000 remaining tickets are probably CAT A, B and C tickets. By the way I managed to CAT D tickets to the semi's so there is hope.
Zaq2/9/2010 12:42 PM
Zeez! I would'nt go even if they gave me tickets and parking! This whole thing sucks!
Mike Garz2/9/2010 12:33 PM
This is a total load of bull****. I applied for 7 games for 4 people including the SA v Mexico game and to my dismay we were only given tickets to a 1/4 final match at loftus. The way Fifa are running this ticketing system is crazy, first we hear that people are not buying tickets to African games yet when we as South Africans apply for these tickets we get shafted. WTF come on Fifa why r u breaking us down like this. But funny this some Americans that will be staying at a friends guest house has extra tickets for a few games we were shafted with so F***K you Fifa I'm buying my tickets from the yanks, yes maybe at an inflated rate but i will not go thru the process of applying for tickets again, ever. HD TV def, fan park maybe - live games hahahahaha only if there is a miracle from Fifa and yes i do hope that Fifa reads this cos the way you have done this ticketing systems is worse that Zuma fathering another child. What a disgrace and disappointment to all involved LOC - Fifa I spit on your shoes. To all everyone reading this - sorry for the bad language but its just crazy that us as the host nation and footie supporters have to go thru this to experience an opportunity of a lifetime. I am at least lucky as i have internet access and some connections but what about all soccer loving citizens who don't have access and will not get to see any games live, again shame on you LOC and Fifa, again i spit spit spit at y'all
alan2/9/2010 12:31 PM
@just askin. They FIFA SAFA PSL there rep fanny jordan obviously want to sell as many tickets to overseas visitors first. I think all the local tickets have been allocated to local radio channels because they seem to be giving thousands of them away in competitions (how die they get them). We will just have to watch on tv or anxiously at fan parks
spider2/9/2010 12:18 PM
My ticket request has failed for Brazil vs Portugal. Let hope I win for spain vs Switzerland!!!
just askin2/9/2010 12:17 PM
if there are still so many tickets available how come none were allocated in the last draw or do we have to go pay the non South African price to get any????? dont tell us that we are not supporting the world cup Mr Jordaan we South African are not getting your support. it was fine to take our money for the Confederations cup and now we get NOTHING. time to find out where all the tickets promised to South Africans have gone!
Anxious ?2/9/2010 12:09 PM
I think they should be careful to use the word anxious, since I applied for Confed cup and 3 SWC games last year all of them featuring African teams and got none. Fan park here I come
