Moon happy to be back

Johannesburg - Bryce Moon has expressed his delight at being called up to the Bafana Bafana squad after spending 10 months in the international wilderness.

The defender, who is currently on loan at Greek club PAOK, joined Bradley Carnell and Bevan Fransman as Carlos Alberto Parreira's shock inclusions for the friendly against Namibia on March 3.

Moon admitted that he knew of his call-up in advance and is relishing the chance to make the right back position his own.

"I've known for a while and I'm very happy," he told The Citizen.

"Under FIFA rules, clubs have to be given 15 days' notice of an international call-up so we received a letter a couple of weeks ago to tell me I was in.

"It's great news with the World Cup so close."

Meanwhile, league-winning defenders Matthew Booth and Bongani Khumalo were disappointed to miss out.

Booth said: "It's good to keep on your toes but I'm still hoping to be going.

"We'll just have to see what happens now and hope that I can be involved when the time comes."

Khumalo added: "I've been focussing on winning the league (with SuperSport) and the national team was always just a bonus. It's disappointing but I wish the guys all the best against Namibia.

"There's not much I can do - selectors make decisions and you just have to accept it. I'll keep playing and see what happens."
