Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana midfielder Teko Modise says he was unaware of fans booing him when he came on as a substitute in South Africa's 2-1 win over France in Bloemfontein.

The out-of-form Orlando Pirates ace replaced Thanduyise Khuboni in the 80th minute and was given a hostile reception as he ran out onto the pitch.

"I didn't realise that the fans booed me," he told Football365.co.za.

"I'm not happy with today(Tuesday), but I'm satisfied. I mean I only played about ten minutes on Tuesday, but there was nothing much I could do."

The 27-year-old says the team got excited when they went two goals ahead through Bongani Khumalo and Katlego Mphela, but he believes that they should have exerted more pressure on their opponents in the second period.

"It's always nice to win. We did what we could, it's unfortunate that we never qualified," he added.

"We were excited because we saw that there were so many opportunities that were created in the game and we knew that if we could have got a third goal, the chances of us qualifying would be there.

"But I mean we started sitting back and we allowed them to come back and that is why they scored the goal that they scored and I think if we put more pressure on them, we would have achieved what we wanted to achieve."
