Cape Town - Butana Komphela is striking out at criticism of the nation’s readiness to host the World Cup.
With three months to go until kick-off, the chairman of the parliament committee on sport and recreation, Komphela, said on Wednesday that the preparations have come under unfair scrutiny.
Komphela said, at a media briefing in Cape Town, that a rail station in Germany was still being completed three weeks before the 2006 World Cup but “there was no noise about it".
Komphela said South Africa is putting the “final touches” to its preparations more than 90 days before, “and then we are declared not ready".
The World Cup is being held in Africa for the first time. The event begins on June 11.
