Kaka: I really tried

Johannesburg - Kaka insists he did all he could at the Soccer World Cup, but understands the Brazil fans' frustration at the team's quarter-final exit.

Brazil had been chasing a sixth world crown in South Africa and made seamless progress through the group phase before easing past Chile in the second round.

It was also going to plan in the last eight clash with Holland on Friday when Robinho scored an early goal as Brazil controlled the first half.

However, Brazil lost control of the game after half-time and conceded twice before finishing the match with 10 men after Felipe Melo was sent off.

Coach Dunga will now leave his position following the defeat, while Kaka's own contribution during the tournament has also come under scrutiny.

The Real Madrid playmaker only showed glimpses of his best form after an injury-hit season at club level, while he was also harshly sent off in the group game against the Ivory Coast.

"There are many people who are sad in Brazil, but nobody is sadder than we are," said Kaka.

"Unfortunately, expectations are always sky-high in Brazil in that people expect us to win the title and, when we don't, that creates frustration."

He added: "It was a complicated World Cup, the way I arrived.

"I did all I could - I fought, I battled, I really tried."
