Germany 'has no SWC chance'

Berlin - German strike legend Gerd Mueller does not believe his country has a chance to win the World Cup later this year.

Mueller, whose overall World Cup scoring record of 14 was beaten by one goal by Brazilian Ronaldo in 2006, is quoted in Saturday's Sport Express newspaper that he could not see Germany winning a fourth world title.

"We have too many young players," he is quoted in the newspaper, which is published in Russia. He also said that the German performance in a friendly against Argentina earlier this month, which Germany lost 1-0, had been catastrophic.

The 64-year-old believes Brazil will win the World Cup in South Africa.

Mueller, who was nicknamed the bomber of the nation and is still Germany's most successful scorer with 68 goals in 62 games, criticized the country's present strikers, saying that they had too easy a life.

"They sign a contract and immediately become millionaires. They then have no inclination to work hard."
