Frankfurt - German police are advising their South African colleagues ahead of next year's World Cup.
A delegation of top-ranking South African police officials are visiting the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which has the most experienced officers trained in crowd control.
The state is home to Bundesliga clubs Schalke and Borussia Dortmund, which draw huge and sometimes unruly crowds.
The local police said Thursday in a statement that the South Africans will learn about the security measures used for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, and the delegation will also attend some Bundesliga games to observe police at work and fan behavior.
