Germans get $125 000 bonus

Cape Town - The 23 players on Germany's national football team earned themselves a bonus of 100 000 euros (about $125 000) apiece by beating Argentina in a World Cup quarterfinal on Saturday.

If Germany defeats Spain on Wednesday in a semi-final in Durban, the bonus paid by the German Football Association (DFB) rises to 150 000 euros. It will pay 250 000 euros per man should the team win the championship.

The DFB is payee as well as payer in the tournament. FIFA, the governing body of international football, is distributing 15 million euros to each semi-finalist, 16.5 million to the runners-up and 20.5 million to the champions - the biggest title bonus ever.
