Gaxa proud of Bafana defence

Johannesburg - Siboniso Gaxa admits he is proud of and eager to maintain Bafana Bafana's impressive defensive record on their Brazil tour.

Carlos Alberto Parreira's men have yet to concede a goal in six games and are looking to continue that trend ahead of the camp in Germany.

The Mamelodi Sundowns right-back believes solidarity at the back is the right foundation to build on.

"You obviously have to start somewhere, you start by building the foundation, not conceding goals, then you build slowly," he said.

"If you don't concede goals, you have a good opportunity to win games."

Gaxa has revealed that his wants to bolster his crossing ability to become one of the world's foremost attacking full backs.

"I have to improve my crossing if I want to play at the highest level in the world. I have to go down there and deliver a good cross to one of the strikers," he added.

"I am here to improve that and to work for the team. I am not there yet, but with training and what we are putting in here, I think it will come right."

Meanwhile, Bafana will now be playing Ponte Preta on Thursday instead of Palmeiras, who have had their league fixture brought forward and thus could not honour the fixture.

The encounter will take place at the Moises Lucarelli Stadium, before Bafana then tackle Desportivo Brasil on Saturday.
