Bloemfontein - A win against France was not enough to prevent Bafana Bafana from being knocked out of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

France pulled a goal back against Bafana Bafana with a goal by Florent Malouda in the 70th minute.

Bafana Bafana went into half-time with a two goal lead with goals by Katlego Mphela and Bongani Khumalo.

Bafana opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a brilliantly taken corner kick that was headed in by Bongani Khumalo.

France were reduced to ten men after Yoan Gourcuff was red carded for going in with a leading elbow and connecting with SA's MacBeth Sibaya head.

In the other Group A match, Uruguay beat Mexico 1-0 to finish top of the group and advance to the second round.

Uruguay, World Cup winners in 1930 and 1950, scored the only goal of the game two minutes before halftime when Luis Suarez headed in a long right wing cross at the far post.

Uruguay finished with seven points from their three games in Group A and with an unblemished defensive record.

Mexico and South Africa finished with four points in a group with France finishing last on one point.

Mexico go through with Uruguay due to a better goal difference than South Africa.
