Johannesburg - FIFA will not discipline Cristiano Ronaldo for spitting as he left the field after Portugal's second-round loss against Spain.

FIFA says its disciplinary committee found no grounds to open a case against the Portugal captain.

Ronaldo was being followed by a television cameraman filming him after the final whistle of his team's 1-0 defeat in Cape Town on Tuesday.

The former FIFA world player of the year appeared to stare into the lens then spit near the camera operator's feet.

FIFA's disciplinary panel had the option to issue a warning, fine or impose a match suspension.

It is a disgusting habit that shuld not be condoned at all by any sporting discipline. Why is it necessary to spit when engaged in any form of sport? For years I played soccer and never ghad the notion to spit when I appeared on the field, nor when I cycle do I have the urge to spit. Not even when I am doing a dive deep down under. In my normal daily work I do not spit. QUIT SPITTING, YOU ARE DISGUSTING.

My interpretation of the video. Ronaldo was looking away from the camera which was following him .Not sure how close the camera man was, but it seemed a reasonable close up shot. Whilst walking , Ronaldo in the course of turning head to from left to righ spat as Soccer player do, but it was more in front of him and down, after which he his eyes looked in to the camera. There was no maliciousness in the act. The same interpretation was given by a colleague who has no interest in football. So I say , the media is twisting an event as they do so often . Back off Ronaldo all you couch judges, referees, coaches and whatever category you are defined by and get a perspective of your own life and then voice your useless democratic right

in the latin tradition, spitting is how you show your feeling of disgust, and yea, he had reason to be disgusted.

Shame, maybe Ronaldo was not taught manners when he was young.

Ronaldo spits with contempt in the direction of the camera. Suarez walks away from the Ghana game a hero for blatantly cheating to save his team from elimination. Domenech refuses to shake hands with Pereira. Diving is par for the course at every match. The list of disgusting behaviour goes on and on and all the while Fifa cover their eyes and ears and simply watch their accounts inflate rapidly. Football has become a disgrace. As fans, what is out incentive to watch the beautiful game anymore when the players and officials clearly care nothing for the game and only about lining their pockets.
