Disappointed Kermit eyes 2014

Johannesburg - Kermit Erasmus is in a philosophical mood after missing out on Bafana Bafana's provisional World Cup squad but has cast his eye on the 2014 tournament.

The Dutch-based striker, who is on loan at Excelsior from Feyenoord, is taking comfort from the fact that his temporary employers are set for promotion to the Dutch's Eredivisie top flight.

"I was very disappointed when I missed out," Erasmus told Football365.co.za.

"But to be honest with you I never set my hopes high, because we all didn't know what the coach was thinking and even when I was in Brazil in camp with the squad I never got to speak one-on-one with the coach, so I had to be careful not to put my hopes up. But I understand, because I was not at every camp the national team went to you know," he explained.

The 19-year-old says he could have learnt a lot from the four strikers, Benni McCarthy, Bernard Parker, Katlego Mphela and Siyabonga Nomvete, who are in the provisional squad list.

"They are experienced strikers and I could have taken away a lot of experience from these guys who have been selected, but like I said I didn't really put my hopes high regarding the World Cup."

Erasmus is now focusing on making the cut for the next edition of the global showpiece.

"There is still the 2014 World Cup to come and I just hope the national team qualifies for that one in Brazil and then I will fulfill my dream of playing in this tournament. I just hope the selected guys will score the goals we need to go through to the next round," he said.
