Cape Town - World Cup semi-final host city Cape Town has South Africa's best pitch for the tournament according to FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke, who made the statement as the football body took control of the stadium.
"It's the best pitch. It's definitely the best pitch we have during all this World Cup if you compare it with all the other stadiums," Valcke said.
The 4.5-billion-rand ($576 million) Cape Town stadium is one of 10 World Cup venues for the 64-match tournament that starts in just over two weeks.
France play Uruguay on June 11 in Cape Town's first of eight World Cup matches.
The 70,000-seat stadium was South Africa's most expensive World Cup venue to construct and is located on prime real estate near the Atlantic seaboard.
