London - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has wished former England captain David Beckham a quick recovery from an injury which has ruled him out of the World Cup, Brown's spokesperson said on Tuesday.

"The Prime Minister has indeed sent him (Beckham) a message," Brown's official spokesperson told reporters.
"He emphasised what a tremendous ambassador Mr Beckham is for English soccer and wishes him well in his recovery, as I think the whole nation does."
Beckham, 34, has had an operation on his ruptured Achilles tendon and is in "good spirits" at a sports injury clinic in Finland.
He sustained the injury on Sunday during the final minutes of AC Milan's Serie A game against Chievo and limped off the field before being stretchered away in pain and in tears.
The injury dashed Beckham's hopes of playing in a fourth consecutive World Cup.
